I really don't see what previous posters have said about Crean's comments. I also don't think you can use underage drinking to validate your thoughts on Crean. I don't like him but I'm not going to put a pitchfork and torch in my hand over this. The problem is the number of incidents, this is all in the last year and a half also 8 transfers since the 2013/2014 season.. 1) In November, in the wee hours before a scrimmage at Assembly Hall, freshman Emmitt Holt, 18, hit sophomore Devin Davis, 19, with a car, sending Davis to the hospital with a serious head injury. 2) Bloomington police had busted 21-year-old junior Hanner Mosquera-Perea for drinking and driving in February 2014, 3) April, state excise officers nabbed junior Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell, then 20, and sophomore Stanford Robinson, then 18, for illegal consumption and having fake IDs. 4) While Davis lay in the hospital recuperating from his accident, Crean announced suspensions for Robinson—strike two—and sophomore Troy Williams. Although the school didn’t officially provide a reason for the punishment, an unidentified source told ESPN that the two players had failed drug tests. 5) Perea and Davis get caught with Marijuana by campus police and get dismissed 6) Saturday morning. Excise police caught them with two unopened bottles of vodka, a problem given they are underage. Holt is 19. Bryant is 18. That's 6 separate incidents and 7 kids being cited for drinking, drugs or both in a year and a half.. Crean's response: 1) "I know where the responsibility sits with me and the coaching staff," Crean said. "I know that (Athletic Director Fred Glass) feels responsibility. I was listening loud and clear when the president spoke. I get that." Ok sounds good 2) "I'd love to sugarcoat it, but I can't," he said. "Ultimately, I'm responsible, but our internal team leadership has been less than poor for the last two years. 3) "Our upperclass leadership is not good. I include the sophomores in that group. Ehh.. 4) "I won't define anybody in terms of leadership — if I had a great leader I would have named him," Crean said. "We might be expecting too much leadership out of some guys. Last year we got better after we had our issues, but it wasn't in the form of having great leadership. That's obvious. Bad.. Idk seems like he doesn't understand that's part of coaching

IU has a massive following that is tiring of Crean. If it weren't for his recruiting, I think he would already be gone. He got a bit of a pass coming in on the heels of the Sampson sanctions but this is a school that prides itself on winning without the baggage. Crean's leash is pretty short right now and that is easily a top ten job. I think he lets Holt go and the freshman is given a pass but is on alert.

Then again the vast majority of students don't get free rides in return for following the rules of an athletic team. The ride isn't free at all Frazier.. Of course I understand that. My point was that as a member of a team and the recipient of a schollie, you have different rules than other students. YaBoy said it much better.

Quality parenting right there. How many folks posting in this thread can honestly say they didn't drink as underclassmen while in college or HS for that matter? That's irrelevant. The biggest problem is drunk kids driving around running over people. That's the main reason for the age restrictions in this country anyway since there aren't many alternative transportation systems like trains or undergrounds in a lot of areas.. Holt ran over a kid and Herrera had a DUI. Those are Serious problems for the program.

Coach Crean is just really good at what he does. He’s in the business of making kids better. We got a strong feel for that with him and his coaching staff. Coaching staff is great, coach (Tim) Buckley is great.” Up next for Jones are official visits to Georgetown and Oklahoma State. Based on the glowing review that Jones Sr. gave of the Indiana trip, it appears the Hoosiers are in excellent shape with the No. 86 prospect in the 247Composite. “In talking with my wife, my family and my son, we really felt good about the visit and what Indiana has to offer,” Jones Sr. said. “But not only that, the fans. You could feel the pride when we went across campus. Everybody takes being a Hoosier personal and there’s a sense of pride. You can feel that as well. “We really enjoyed the visit. From the academic side, obviously from the basketball side, just getting to know Indiana basketball, Indiana the university, we walked away from it knowing that Indiana is a great place.” www.insidethehall.com/2015/08/30/jones-gets-a-great-feel-for-iu-on-official-visit/

I just can't get worked up about college athletes drinking or smoking bud. I am against drinking and driving however, that should be met with harsh penalties.. Citing kids for having unopened bottles of booze is kinda weak too imo.. Show me a team of college athletes that don't party and I'll show you a Unicorn.. My feeling is some booster who has some power with the local force doesn't like Crean very much..

To me its not irrelevant, I'm not going to beat up on kids for doing the same things I did when I was in school.. Holt was not found to be at fault for that accident. The police report said it was caused by a pedestrian action. He had been drinking but the police determined that wasn't what caused the accident..

If they were bad apples, he recruited them. 7 kids cited for Drugs, liquor, or both in a year and a half. There's 13 roster spots so it would be akin to half the football team being cited in under 2 years. Kids party but that looks like a team that's OOC and not in fear of being reprimanded for bad behavior If I were the President of this University I would think this is a very big deal, not just kids being kids. It's not as if he is helpless, he has the power to stop this nonsense very quickly if he desires to do so...

Ron reporting that his visit has been moved slightly, not a member so I can't see what new date is. I don't think Ron would consider this revealing a key piece of the inside info he often garners. Jones is coming one day earlier than previously scheduled. Thursday & Friday instead of Fri/Sat. His Mom & Dad are coming too.

Seems to me the fact that he is still coming, and is bringing both parents, means we still have a fighter's chance to win them all over.

Crean trying hard to save his job. Gotta believe he's gone if Hoosiers don't finish top 3-4 in loaded BIG 10 and possibly sweet 16 tournament run.
