Sad my Sens didn't make it thru. Not disappointed as they gave it a great run and gained some real experience for the kids...Ceci, Stone, Zibanejad, Wiercioch,Pageau. All have a bright future. Too bad the Isles didn't make it out of the first round. An all NY series would be amazing and would really capture the attention of that market. Oh well. Guess team Euro will have their shot. Pulling for Calgary now. Yes the 16000 Islander fans in the world must be greatly disappointed.

Be that as it may the Islanders with their craptastic fans and perpetual Marx Brothers routine have the same amount of SC's as the Rangers.

I prefer to consider the Rangers as having won one Stanley Cup in 74 years. Then again, I am a Devils fan.

True as that may be there is only one hockey team that matters in the graeater NY area. Between them the Isles and Devils have almost as many Cups as they do fans...
Any Islander or Devil fan over 50 is just a Ranger fan who gave up...

Any Islander or Devil fan over 50 is just a Ranger fan who gave up... Very true. I gave up on the Rangers when the Colorado Rockies moved east to the Meadowlands. Haven't looked back. Still have my red-and-green jerseys in my closet. Are the Rangers the #1 team in the New York metro area. Absolutely. And the Knicks are the same vis-a-vis basketball, the Giants as to football and the Yankees as to baseball. The oldest franchises will always control the general hearts and minds of the populace. That's fine by me. I don't mind being a fan of an underdog. I started giving up on the Rangers when I started at GU in the fall of 1974. . .the Caps were an expansion team my freshman year. Listened to Ron Weber's play-by-play of some awful games and watched some overmatched teams get hammered nightly by the Canadiens, Bruins and Flyers. I survived the Greg Joly, Yvon Labre, Tommy Williams and Mike Marson Capitals, with Ron Low and Bernie Wolfe in goal. They were a lot more fun to watch than the Rangers.

Great to hear all these people not from New York pontificate on how our sports teams and their fan bases work. Really enlightening. I'm sure a Islanders-Rangers series wouldn't have done anything at all for the sport. Nope, nuthin'. The hundreds of other Islander fans just in Verizon last night were there just to kill time I am sure.
Be careful about how easily you look down your nose at the last time the Isles won a cup. It's been about as long since GU won a championship.

In non-playoff news, the Devils just announced that Lou Lamoriello has stepped down as general manager (he remains as team president), and that Ray Shero, former Penguins GM, will replace him. End of an era.
I'd expect Shero to hire his old pal, Dan Bylsma, as the new Devils coach. I'd also expect this means that Martin Brodeur is not returning to NJ from St. Louis.

That may also mean Don Sweeney will be the new Bruins GM (Shero was supposedly the major competition).

The Bruins asked the Rangers for permission to speak to assistant general manager Jeff Gorton, but were rebuffed. Seeing as Sweeney, Gorton and Shero were the three "finalists," it does look like it will be Sweeney's job.

Maybe Rangers think Slats is stepping down? Or they just want to wait until the playoffs are over. Teams usually don't stand in the way of an executive stepping up.

Sather is not going anywhere. The only person in Madison Square Garden who is tighter with Jim Dolan than Sather is the new president and part-owner of the New York Liberty, Isiah Thomas.
The Rangers are learning first-hand what happens, in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, when a team runs into a hot goalie. Holtby is a hot goalie, and that is why the Rangers are on the brink of hitting that first tee this weekend.

Impressive sweep by the Hawks, who finally appear to be rolling again.

Holtby is a hot goalie, and that is why the Rangers are on the brink of hitting that first tee this weekend. Holtby unquestionably has been playing well, but as a Ranger fan, I don't think that's the full explanation. The Rangers have been unable to generate very many quality shots. Holtby has made some great stops, but many of the Rangers' shots have been long-range wristers right into his breadbasket. So even when they're outshooting the Caps, a lot of those shots are not real threats. This is not meant to diminish Holtby's play--I'm just saying that this isn't a case of the Rangers thoroughly outplaying Washington and losing because of goaltending.

Impressive sweep by the Hawks, who finally appear to be rolling again. I heard that the Black Hawks have made the Western Conference finals for seven consecutive years (or as the beloved Chick might have said, seven consecutive years in a row). That's an extremely impressive feat.

It's actually 3 in a row and 5 out of 7. They had two consecutive years in a row following their 2010 cup win where they lost in the first round (to Vancouver and then Mike Smith/Phoenix).
