What if we brought Patrick Ewing in to be the head coach of this program as our rivals at St. John's did with Chris Mullin.
Would give the BE all the publicity it needs and if he hit the recruiting trail with his resume it's a no brainer.
I know he's been waiting for his chance and looks like the job pays well.

Of course he does, he's an alum and wouldn't expect anything else. John Thompson supported Craig Esherick for the head coaching job. What's your point?

What was the point of your original post? Georgetown does not have a coaching vacancy.

John Thompson supported Craig Esherick for the head coaching job. Until he didn't. JT3 has been an overwhelming success at GU, most of those years in the toughest conference in the country, and has succeeded in every way except the last 5-6 NCAA Tournaments. I realize that is disappointing to everyone, including me. It does not, however, negate the almost 70% winning record, BE and BET championships, a Final Four, great kids, no scandals, kids graduate. And he has put kids in the NBA. SJU has been an irrelevant program for decades. But then, you already knew that.

What was the point of your original post? Georgetown does not have a coaching vacancy. Of course not but think outside the box if you can. Our fan base is convinced that if we would change coaches that we'd immediately head back to the Craig Esherick era. I'm convinced that this fan base is traumatized by that and thinks if there is not a John Thompson coaching here then we are doomed. I know because part of me shares that fear. However, not a great sign of a top tier brand and program. Look, I'm throwing out a hypothetical here with PE as that would be an interesting scenario. Not calling for the ouster of our current coach if there is not a better candidate. If you look at this program's history, it's been in a downward spiral since the 1980's albeit slowly. We never sustained the brand or recognition we had like a Duke did with their success in the early 90's. Since the 80's, we had an elite talent in AI that gave some excitement for two years in the 90's and then a Final Four run where we upset NC which was a great season. Not much in between in terms of national success which is what this program should be held to based on our investment. We now play in a conference that doesn't garner the attention it once did as the elite teams that were our rivals are gone. We inherited the bottom of the conference other than Villanova so that's not going to help us either.

The "not much in between" point is ridiculous too. We had a great stretch 30 years ago. We haven't had a similar one since. We also haven't had ball players taking fake classes or punching women but we have had NBA Hall of Famers and guys that do tremendous humanitarian work and a guy offer to donate an organ for another guy with whom they've gone to school. You know... school. The more important part of all of this. We've had an embarrassment of riches in many ways with the guys that have represented us even with the "facilities" we have and the standards in place. Your agenda is transparent and not well considered to be very kind. If you can't even recognize that the Johnnies are in a wholly different situation as a program such that a Mullin hire is a remotely decent idea, you're not only not a fan, you're clueless.

Didn't say AI did but he created excitement in the program as we were in a bad place before his arrival. His NBA career also helped keep the program relevant as he was a huge star and an influence on a lot of young people of his generation and the next. To dismiss that is ridiculous.
Tell me I'm ridiculous for having a thought different than you. I guess I haven't found where they are serving the Kool-Aid you are drinking.
Should I put my comments "in quotes" to make my point or is that your thing?

Tell me I'm ridiculous for having a thought different than you. I guess I haven't found where they are serving the Kool-Aid you are drinking. Should I put my comments "in quotes" to make my point or is that your thing? The program now is getting more guys drafted higher more consistently than in years past. Don't try to change your narrative. You don't like JT3. Yet your reasoning is baseless. You're ridiculous because your "reasoning" is nothing but confirmation bias. The quotes are necessary in response to your nonsense. What Georgetown needs is to make noise in the tournament. It's a highly successful program on every metric but postseason success. You downplay JT3's success but point to AI who got to an Elite Eight? OK. Let's go with that. What big time recruits went to Georgetown as a result of AI being exciting? How did Georgetown fare after AI? He was a once in a generation player and what did that add exactly? I'll take Jeff Green, Greg Monroe, Roy Hibbert and Henry Sims and Hollis over AI for program rep every day of the week over AI for the impact they've had on the rep of the program. AI was phenomenal. And it garnered very little in the following years. Please make a point other than you don't like JT3. As far as I can tell, you haven't made one yet. The Mullin hire is a no lose situation because of where the Johnnies are right now. If you equate the Hoyas with the Johnnies, you're beyond help. We don't need a splash hire. We need guard depth, a lock-down defender on the perimeter, and a knockdown shooter. We don't need a new coach. You want splash over proven success? Why exactly other than the fact that you don't like the offense?

JT3 obviously doesn't redshirt enough players. The key here obviously would have been to redshirt DSR so we could have had him for an extra year.

I mean, consider this an opportunity to start a "Countdown to 1000" thread for posters' concern trolling. Everyone wins.

Let's really think outside the box and bring in AI as our new coach. The players can spend more time with their books because there will be no practices.

JTIII has been a successful coach, in fact very successful with the exception of the recent NCAA results - not an insignificant exception I realize. And you are suggesting bringing in a man with zero head coaching experience simply because of his name, which in no way makes him a "better available candidate". So let's at least be honest about it. We get your agenda against our current coach. We have seen it a few dozen times now. Just a suggestion - you might have lower blood pressure and less agitation in your life if you found another program to follow for now, and came back in the future when we are in need of a coaching change.

When I saw Mullin got the job, my first thought was that Patrick would probably be the top of our list, if JT3 ever chose to leave, for some reason. Just as certainly, JT3 is in no danger of being terminated, and I doubt Patrick would accept the job if he were fired.
