From hoopmasters ... hoopmasters.com/article.php?aid=1113691863 ;D Attention: shoppers! ;D Kind of surprised to see Spencer Laurie transferring out of Mizzou. He's loosely related to the WalMart family which built the new Arena at Mizzou. (Everybody remember the saga of "Paige Laurie Arena" which has now reverted to another name, given the 60 Minutes expose on how she finagled her degree from USC with someone else doing her homework for her?) He was a walk-on, I think, who just wanted to get a chance to play with a team in a BCS conference. The family connection probably helped. Now ... poof! Churchill Odia is rumored to be honing in on one of the Oregon schools for his life after Xavier. Strange situation with him and the immigration dilemma ... think he even got into one of those old-fashioned "marriages of convenience" to avoid deportation, or some such nonsense.

surprised to see that ricky lucas is transfering from GW. granted we may be a little over booked at the guard position, he is still a hell of a player and wouldnt be available until 06-07.
it would also help us with local recruiting since the kid is from herdon.

Lawya, you disappoint me.
It was "20/20", not "60 Minutes".
Do NOT ask me why I remember this.

Bleh, something about a kid who has transfered 4 times in 5 years (including HS that is) from various schools doesn't strike me as a guy I'd like on my team.

Hoyalawya,
You're right about Churchill Odia...he is transferring from Xavier to play for Ernie Kent at Oregon next year...Do know if he's got any game? It seems like he got shuffled out with the coaching change at Xavier

For all his high ranking coming out of high school, I don't know if anybody can gauge what Odia's current level of play might be. It's got to be a little rusty.
He didn't play his senior year at Montrose.
He was averaging only 8 minutes most of the season at Xavier until the final 4 or 6 games where he mostly sat.
There's a mixed bag of rumor on the Musketeers board that his "mind was elsewhere" and/or that he "wasn't a hard worker" and/or that Miller's style was a big departure from what Matta's style of play would have been etc. etc.
Maybe somebody on the Board who's actually seen Odia play during his junior season in high school and/or at one of the camps can chime in with how he looked in the past.
I assume your "ptld" means you're in Portland and follow the Ducks?

Yeah, I went to GU undergrad and UO law school, so I follow both teams pretty closely. We received word about the Odia transfer about a month or so ago, but nobody seems to know a whole lot about him except what you've told me in your post. I have also heard that Rick Pitino wanted him at Louisville pretty badly, and I trust his talent evaluation skills. I would love to hear from someone who has actually seen him play. By the way, here is the link to the Odia transfer story from a Eugene paper: www.registerguard.com/news/2005/04/12/e1.sp.duckhoop.0412.html
