I just heard that my classmate, Jim Barry (1966) and still the record holder of most points scored in one game by a Hoya, has died. Jim started out in the class of 1965, but a knee injury caused him to lose some academic time and affected the way he played. Jim had a great outside shot, plus the way he drove to the basket to make him doubly effective. He was the cousin of All-American Rick Barry, and Jim was all-Eastern his sophomore year (freshmen were not eligible in those days). He himself would have been All-American had he not had the knee injury. May he rest in peace.

Class of '68 remembers Jim Barry. It was painful watching him play with that ugly leg brace since he was such a natural, fluid shooter and ball handler. Today his injury would be easily repaired arthroscopically and he would have an all american possibly NBA career. He, Jimmy Brown, Steve Sullivan, Owen Gillen, Bob Holder, and Frank Hollendonner introduced me to Hoya basketball. Flashes of greatness but didn't play much defense and of course, Tommy O'Keefe and Jack McGee, were not the Irish equivalent of Izzo and Pitino.

I graduated in the college class of '68 , M '72and grew up on the Jersey Shore. Jim Barry was my hero. His nickname was Boo. One morning while blowing off a chemistry lecture I was playing pool in the Copley basmenet pool hall. Jim Barry asked me if I wante to shoot some 9 ball. I rushed back to the doem to tell my friends wno mercilessly started calling me "boo" Stuck to this day.. Great guy whose career was really affected by a serious knee injury Jim practiced law on the Jersey Shore. I think I will retoe the nickname ( if my classmatees concur)

I have been wondering if Jim's Mom was related to Georgetown All-American runner, Rich Kenah, also a Jersey guy.
