ESPN reports that Doherty was hired by Florida Atlantic - he has three very disappointing seasons with UNC, despite recruiting their three stars...is this a parallel to Esh? If Doherty gets another shot at HC should Big Craig also be seeing his ticket punched soon?

What's the obsession with Esherick's future? If he's up for a job and gets it, we'll know. Otherwise why wonder if Esh is going to work again? Afterall he said many times as HC of GU that "I've got my Law Degree and DON'T NEED to be a Coach" so maybe it's time to use it. He's applying like everyone else and so far has come up short. I think some people (especially Esh) have an overinflated opinion of what GU Basketball is received as across the country. When you go back to his comments at end of last year this came out quite clearly and is not going to help him in job interviews. He's got to work his way back up, and Doherty is doing that at FAU.

First Rollie, now Matt Doherty...what is it with Palm Beach County and coaching moves? This definitely deserves a random road trip to Boca Raton next winter break if true. Now if Steve Lavin shows up at Jupiter High School or something next year, then I'm grabbing the hurricane supplies and heading into the safe room under the stairs.

What parallel to Esh?! Big Craig?! For God's sake! Mustache Graig or Cry Baby Craig, but not Big Craig... You have to earn the "Big".

you can't see parallels? Both coached their alma maters for several seasons with relatively disappointing results, but still winning records...there was much unrest and unhappiness in the program while they were there...i mean if you look hard enough, you can always find parallels...
I know that MattyDoh is working his way back up - i am just saying will Craig get that chance considering they have similar resumes - minus the ND HC gig...
any openings still is D-1 ball?

sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?page=coachingchanges05DePaul, Jacksonville, and VMI are still open. I hadn't heard that NMSU had made a hire. Then I see that they hired Reggie Theus. The younger members of this board may remember him better as "Coach Fuller" on the NBC Saturday morning classic "Hang Time," so needless to say that blew my mind. www.imdb.com/name/nm0857696/In the show he was replaced by Dick Butkus, which was pretty funny.

Nice - thanks for the update...I would love to see Esh get hired somewhere and see what he would do with a little less scrutiny and national coverage...Jacksonville might be a tight job

Why didn't Theus get more offers after his performace on Hang Time? Let's face it, if you can take a team featuring a fat kid and a girl to the California State Basketball Finals you know basketball.

Esh will be the next coach at Florida Pacific. You should be happy since it is your alma mater. ;D

Esh will be the next coach at Florida Pacific. Well, in fairness to the good people down there in Boca, there could be a Florida Gulf. Or Florida Kissimmee. Or Florida Swamp. It's imporant to make these geographical distinctions, otherwise you'd have people around the country going "Yes, but WHAT BODY OF WATER ARE THEY PROXIMATE TO?" As a nation, we can't afford that. A nation uncertain-as-to-where-in-Florida-that-basketball-team-on-TV-is-located cannot stand.

Shimmy, I think that upper midwest air has gotten to your head. There is absolutely no comparison between Doherty and Esh. Doherty had assembled a solid squad and demonstrated his ability as a head coach at a major D-1 program before he ever even moved to Carolina.
Esh never did a thing other than sit next to JT to merit a chance. Now he's on the short list for worst coach in Big East history.

I don't think DePaul will be excited about handing over the reigns to a coach who couldn't seem to handle things in the old Big East. I still feel like Esh is going to have to start somewhere like the Ivies or Patriot League where the expectations may be a bit lower than a school like DePaul that absolutely needs to succeed right now.

Jacksonville just hired a Georgia Tech assistant, so they're off the list.
