With the roster next season, this team can have the luxury of redshirting a big kid just like this. I know nothing of him, but it fits that kind of profile and that thought process would be very helpful moving forward. Agreed. Though if I was him, Davidson is tailor made for his wishes. I do like that he wants to play at a major conference school over that though.

Blake Verbeek – 6-10 – F/C – Calvin Christian (Michigan) – Grand Rapids Storm A long lean plus length interior prospect who still has room to grow physically and skill wise, Verbeek continued to progress throughout the spring and summer and he delivered some of his best efforts in July as he showed an ability to finish at the rim, with the mid-range jumper, and even step outside and knock down the perimeter shot. Defensively he has solid instincts and he has a nice feel on the glass so he can collect rebounds as well. Still raw on the physical tool side and with his back to the basket, Verbeek in the right Division 1 system will flourish long term with a little patience and continued development. An intriguing young prospect whose best basketball lies ahead of him. www.ny2lasports.com/article_one.aspx?articleid=3913

Not a bad idea, it would give him time to put some weight on and strengthen up some. Can you imagine him, Pickett and Blair spreading the floor.

What is with everyone's fascination with redshirts? If we got this kid, we need him for 2018-2019 depth just as much as for potential. Past McClung and Mosley, he might be the 3rd best ballhandler on the roster. Because he's pretty clear a 4/5 and you have LeBlanc, Walker, Carter, Derrickson, Mourning and Govan at those spots.

Past McClung and Mosley, he might be the 3rd best ballhandler on the roster. I'd normally agree with this, but in the case of that individual kid, he needs a redshirt season. He's very skilled, but not very strong at all. If he were playing in the Pac-12, he could get away with that, but not in the big east. And with Govan, Derrickson, Walker and LeBlanc, we certainly project to have the depth next season to give this kid a year in the weightroom

As I watch Verbeck, he has the touch and finesse that reminds me of JG

I am very intrigued by Verbeek. Skilled player who can handle it and shoot. Kind of a goofy shooting motion, but he gets it up quickly and confidently.
I love the idea of redshirting him, trap him in the weight room and he could be a huge addition to the 2019 class. If not, I think he would still add solid depth to the front court this year, I just don't think he would play a ton this year unless there are injuries.
I am impressed with Pat and the staff for being so active late in the 2018 cycle. It seems to me like the Hoyas are major players for Wendell Mitchell, Alanzo Frink and James Akinjo. Outside shot still with Montgomery. With the craziness of the coaching carousel and the plethora of grad transfers that will be available this year, I have no doubt Pat will add at least two more players to the class making it the best Hoya class in a few years.

The thing about a RS year for him is that it wouldn't preclude him from being depth as well. He will still be practicing with the team and will be a great practice player. If enough of the guys in front of him get injured, they you burn the RS and hopefully he's put on enough weight by then. I think this would be a great addition but should not be the top priority at this point; that still goes to a PG.

You take on this floor general from Roselle Catholic, a teammate of Naz Reid and Alanzo Frink? He destroyed Nowell. #heartoverheight

Blake Verbeek 6'11 PF Grandville Calvin Christian, Grand Rapids, MI is visiting the Hilltop today Verbal Committs has him as a 2* star recruit ..hmmmmm... He said he’s made visits to Davidson, Western Michigan, Oakland, Creighton and Utah, to name a few. But the team he chooses will have to suit his style of play. He loves to shoot. “I think the biggest part for me is where do I fit in a school’s system,” he said. “I don’t play a traditional post. I’m more of a swing or stretch four (forward). I need to see a system that has players just like me. So that’s important to me.” highschoolsports.mlive.com/news/article/-809860631501774824/6-foot-10-blake-verbeek-says-he-will-decided-on-a-college-after-the-season/

If enough of the guys in front of him get injured, they you burn the RS and hopefully he's put on enough weight by then. I think this would be a great addition but should not be the top priority at this point; that still goes to a PG. This kid looks to be a pretty athletic big guy with a refined offensive game. He clearly needs to add strength to his frame if he wants to complete in the Big East, but the rest of his game is fairly advanced. He runs the floor well, Shoots the ball really well, handles the ball well for someone his size and can block an occasional shot. If Trey Mourning comes back they should have good depth at the 4/5 spots next year behind Marcus and Jessie, with Walker, Carter and Mourning. So he should be able to take a red shirt year to get stronger and be ready to compete for some minutes the following year. If they can't find a highly rated big man at this late stage of the recruiting process for '18, this might be a good solution. They would still need to add a quality center for the '19 class but they seem to be at least involved with some good looking prospects for that class.

This Verbeek kid is right out of central casting for Creighton. How is he not already committed there?
I would love to have a long shooter like this on the roster. PG is the obvious priority, but I guess one is not dependent on the other - we have room for both.

We don’t need someone 6ft 10 and 150lbs. Pass on him.
