He's got a much better shot than Cota, and he's quicker to boot.

What's with the negativity against Felton? He has the perfect game for an NBA point guard. He is at his best in transition and runs the offense by being able to beat his man off the dribble at will. There is no NBA team that does not need a guy that can beat his man off the dribble and draw out a second defender. He plays fast, has great vision and the 24 second clock will be a benefit for him.
When he was off the floor UNC struggled this season. He is clearly better than Cota ever was and his quickness and 45% three point shooting will make him a real threat. My only concern is his size for defense, but there are plenty of successful 6'2" point guards in the league.
Most scouts have him as a lottery pick and I agree.

Weren't they saying the same thing about another former "great" ACC point guard a couple of years ago: Jay/Jason Williams. He wasn't doing too well before his unfortunate motorcycle accident. In fact, the Chicago Bulls benched him for Jamal Crawford. As you fail to realize, when you get in the NBA playoffs, if you cannot play a half-court game you are not going too far. UNC and Felton struggled in a half-court setting. Oh yeah, he is not really that fast. He is fast for this day and age college game. But I've seen a lot faster in college before. Ray Felton is going to have a hard time blowing by opponents in the NBA and running a team in the half court setting. His game is good for the college setting, not the NBA.

My only concern is his size for defense, but there are plenty of successful 6'2" point guards in the league. It's his size. I'm not sure what your definition of successful is. If it is a contributing but role player on a successful team, certainly. But I'm not sure Felton is a real 6'2". And to be a star at the 6' to 6'2" range, you've got to be incredibly quick. It's a weak draft, so he may go lottery, but there's valid reason for concern. He's a much better shooter and bigger than TJ Ford, but I'm not sure he is as quick as Ford was. What saves Felton is that he is a much better shooter than most give him credit for. I don't think he is as explosive as Ben Gordon, and Gordon has trouble getting PT over Chris Duhon because of defense.

I want to retract a little bit of what I wrote. Using a more objective source (ie not the UNC media guide) Felton is much closer to 6 feet even. Given that lack of height he will need to really work on defense. I still believe he is fast enough to cause problems on offense, even in the NBA. I see him as a Bobby Jackson, however, TJ Ford is also a good comparison. I am not sayign he will be an all-star but a solid contributor is likely.

I think he's a lot like TJ Ford, except his shooting seems to be improving rapidly. He's lightning quick, has a good handle, and seems to have good court vision. I'd be surprised if he isn't a solid starter in the pros soon. Gutsy kid too - takes big shots and plays like a warrior. Why the shot at Ben Gordon. I don't watch enough of him to comment on his defense, but NO ONE plays defense in the pros nowadays. I know, because I'm a Knicks fan and I'm pretty certain I could drop 30 on Marbury. Anyway, Ben Gordon is phenomenal - one of the most gifted scorers to come into the league in quite a while. Maybe since AI.

Felton is nothing like TJ Ford. Feton is about 5'11 to 5'10 really. McCants is about 6'2". College listings boost players heights sometimes. Sam Perkins was 6'11" at UNC. But he somehow shrunk to 6'9" in the NBA. Felton is good in transition. In a half-court setting, he rarely beats people off the dribble. Felton is no way near what Bobby Jackson is. I haven't seen Felton demonstrate toughness and quickness like Bobby Jackson. Felton is good up and down the court on fastbreaks. But beating people off the dribble, going east to west, Felton is average, at best.
Oh yeah, Ben Gordon is no AI. There is only one. AI is a franchise player. Ben Gordon is a scorer.

Sean May is as good as gone if Marvin Williams goes. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2035982The newfound perils of a National Championship squad. A returning nucleus like we had in 1985 after the '84 NC is going to become a part of "college lore".

Heck, Ewing and Reggie Williams wouldn't have went to GU if this were 2005. Reggie was the top player coming out of high school. He chose GU over UNC. Graham would have skipped too.

I criticized Ben Gordon's defense because he doesn't play any. And yes, there are people who play defense in the NBA. We call them Champions. You could have just said, "Because he went to UConn." That would have been enough for me. Any other criticisms are incidental after that. Kind of like criticizing UBL for his fashion sense. It's superfluous.

If Jaque Vaughan can survive in the league this long, I don't see why Felton won't do just as well... I liken him to a T.J. Ford...not as athletic though...but not a lot of people are...

I too believe Felton will be a solid NBA player...great handle, great quickness with and without the ball...
