Maybe, it's because they don't see the comparison as that far-fetched! Listen I remember Merkel, the first time he set foot on the court. He had a lot of potential but he sputtered his first year. All I am saying is that Tre has more poise when you compare both of them at the same point in their career. keep an eye on Tre. Let's talk at the end of the season. We're saying the same thing if I'm not mistaken... Read it aagain; I think we are. Much respect!

JTIII saw what Tre can bring. That's why he said Tree would be a contributor this year. He needs to get a little stronger, and develop more discipline at both ends. But he will be exciting, and a significant factor, going forward. No doubt about it. Amen!

NBA! That's a lofty goal. dang, even I did not have that in mind when I initiated this thread. Faith is an amazing thing, however.

Our tourney progression at the end of this year will probably have much to do with Tre's and Copeland's (their continued development before year's end) impact to our game plans. Other squads that will scout and prepare for the our team will look to take away option one (Smith and DSR), as we have seen thus far there are times when option 1 when not clicking (be it foul trouble or concentrated defensive efforts) leave us a little vulnerable at times (scoring droughts). Be it foul trouble or just time on the bench that then that can leave teams to focus defensive efforts on LJ. With TC (excellent pace; need more lane attacks) and Copeland (coming around some with mid range game and curls) ability has the ability to attack the lane (for the own shot or kicks & dish) which we know always cause defenses problem and this is where we can have continued offensive success after our main option.

He's coming along but this is still crazy talk. He hasn't been a star since day one and isn't a star yet. He's contributing and that's a great thing. Hopefully, as with the other younger guys, he continues to put it together to give this squad more ways to win.

I like Tre, but he's not really a point guard right now, is he? I mean, he hasn't really shown an ability to drive and dish or even feed the post yet. If playing Tre more is what DSR needs to get off his butt, then whatever it takes, and I love seeing Tre play, but right now his best asset might just be his energy.

The last few games Tre's quickness has really caught my attention. I've been following the Hoyas for about 15 years and besides AI - I can't think of any regular players that compare. I think David Edwards and to a lesser extent Dean Berry - but I'm not counting those guys. Quickness alone won't make him special. But I'm hoping he becomes the whole package so that we can see that quickness in big minutes.

Two great games in a row for Tre, I hope JT3 continues to give him extended minutes going forward.. He's earned them..

Can't wait to see this kid the rest of his career. With some strength and some experience he will be special.

This kid rocks. Love his game and moxie. Reminds me of Smitty in all the best ways. This class should be a pleasure to watch the next three plus seasons.

We need another solid guard. Having said that, I do believe Tre is going to be one of the keys for this team next year.

So I searched on Tre and Campbell and didn't see a Tre thread.... how is that possible?
Here's final BE Offensive Efficiencies for our players, divided into groups:
Dumpster Fires Paul White 87 LJ Peak 91 Aaron Bowen 91
Merely Bad Hopkins 96
Half Great, Half Dumpster Fire Copeland 101
Good Trawick 107 Smith 113
God Amongst Men DSR 122 on a 26% shot rate
Damn Good Campbell 121
Bam! I know this is old news, but Tre, on a per poss used basis, has basically been as good as DSR in terms of creating points. And better than anyone else on the team.
And the easy reason why: He can shoot, and he doesn't turn over the ball.
It's actually interesting that so many people peg him as a pure point guard -- I get why, he's quick, has a great handle, etc. But he actually doesn't distribute the ball right now -- he has a lower assist rate than Josh Smith, Aaron Bowen and Paul White. He does have jets, but he's really only led a couple of fast breaks. He looks like he should generate steals, but he's got the third lowest steal rate on the team, well behind all of the vets.
But he makes his shots. He's not really shooting better than DSR, or Ike, or Trawick, though. The key, really, is that he doesn't turn over the ball. He's got a 10% turnover rate -- lowest on the team. But that's incredibly valuable. Very few dumb passes. Not getting caught from behind on the break. So valuable.
He's going to add more to his game, but for a team whose players have almost always been more turnover prone than most, it's nice to see Tre do so much with his time.
