Some of you will love it, some of you will hate it but I think it is time for a prediction thread on Georgetown's record at the conclusion of the Big East regular season.
I'll start it by saying that I think the Hoyas will split with Providence, Villanova, Seton Hall and St. Johns but sweep the rest. I would have said a split with Butler too but one of the teams will have to win two of three and I think it will be the Hoyas. So that leaves the BE record at 14-4.
Optimistic? Certainly, but with reason. I don't think this is the kind of team that will easily allow any "bad losses" and I think that everyone will agree the Hoyas are substantially better than Xavier, Marquette, Creighton and DePaul. That should lead to 8 wins right there. They take two of the three from Butler for 10 wins and split with the top half of the league for another 4 wins. That equals 14.
The team has already shown they can play toe to toe with top teams nationally and they seem (to my eyes) to be improving as you hope a young team would. As long as they continue getting better I don't see 14-4 as unrealistic.

I'll go 12-6. I agree with your general premise, but I think there'll be a "bad" loss or two. There always is! That said, I don't think 14-4 is all that unrealistic...particularly since we could sweep one of the other top teams.

I haven't seen St John's play but they appear to be much better than last year. So I will add them to the list of teams we split with. Add Xavier just because they are so tough at home and Villanova and a revitalized Seton Hall and Providence and I have us at 13-5.

My heart says 13-5; my head says 12-6.
Either way, we are over 20 wins before BET and solidly off the bubble.

Also, I predict that we win the BET this year.

Pomeroy predicts we go 10-8. I'd be pretty psyched about 12-6.

10-8 means we lose once to everyone expect DePaul OR we get swept by one or more teams. I don't see either one of those happening. I'd say the low end (which would involve large amounts of terrible in-game luck) is 11-7, but that is extremely unlikely also. Far more likely is 12 wins or more with the most probable outcome being 13 or 14. Since I'm feeling optimistic I'll stick with 14.

We would be an underdog to Villanova at home if we played right now.
If we won 13 conference games we'd probably be one of the top 10-12 best teams in the nation. That would be great.

I'm thinking 13-5. . .which will make the BET pretty meaningless for GU.

I'm thinking 13-5. . .which will make the BET pretty meaningless for GU. The BET never was and never will be meaningless for the Hoyas. I mean, I get your point and all about getting into the NCAAs, but this is the BEast and frankly, the BET title means more than an NCAA run and always will. It means you beat the best teams in the highest pressure arena during the best basketball weekend of the year. Don't mean to be harsh, but the BET is special, never meaningless:)

It's all about when you think it clicks for this team. Pomeroy predicts 10-8 and I think that's right for how the team has been so far. But it's underestimating the team's potential. If it clicks early, we could contend with Villanova... if it's late, maybe 12-6. If never... it's 10-8 and a disappointing year.

at Xavier -- W vs. Creighton -- W vs. Marquette -- W at Providence -- L at DePaul -- W vs. Butler -- W vs. Villanova -- W at Marquette -- L vs. Xavier -- W at Creighton -- W vs. Providence -- W at Villanova -- L at Seton Hall -- L vs. St. John's -- W vs. DePaul -- W at St. John's -- W at Butler -- L vs. Seton Hall -- W 13-5? I didn't think it would be that good before I started this exercise. But I'm never wrong, so... 13-5 it is. (Undefeated at home? The Phone Booth is a fortress!)

I simply meant that there will be no pressure on the Hoyas to win in the BET this year, because our card to the Dance should have been punched beforehand.

A win on wednesday at X and they could go 12-5 or better a loss makes me think 10-8. Just don't like 4 of our last 7 on the road. After Nova I don't see a lot of separation between the next 6.

I see very little chance of splitting with Quette but sweeping the Johnnies.
