I saw "This Is The End" and "Neighbors" both starring Seth Rogen and left both movies feeling underwhelmed. I gave both movies a 4 out of 10 at the most.
I thought this film had a bad plot line as I believed it turn into "Enemies become friends" story line, but after I found that they were going to actually assassinate Kim Jong-un in the film, I thought:
1. Why would Sony green light this film and distribute it?? 2. How did Seth Rogen & James Franco find investors to fund this film?? 3. Most crucial part question--Who thought an movie based on the assassination of a current nation leader would even be a good idea??
Is this the first movie to be shelved due political pressure/terrorist threats?

The answer to questions 1 and 2 is simple: Seth Rogen films make money, even his "flops" barely lose money compared to their budget, since most his movies have relatively low budgets. Even perceived flops like "Green Hornet" made $100M over budget. As for #3, I agree. While there are tons of movies ever year that have plots against the US president, it's rarely from the perspective of the plotters being the good guys, and never actually has the "bad guy" president being played as the actual sitting president.

I don't understand the "let's go see this on baby Jesus' birthday because 'Merica!" backlash whatsoever. This movie looks really stupid, and I liked Pineapple Express.

I don't know if this movie is any good, but I was curious to see it. I usually enjoy political parodies. I may be in the minority but I liked Team America: World Police. I love that it made fun of us and other countries/world leaders as well. The best character by far was Kim Jong Il...
As for this movie, I hope people don't base their decision to see it or not see it because of the N. Korean cyber threats. It would be quite disappointing if theaters allowed themselves to be bullied by a few hackers hiding behind the DMZ....

This is not about corporate cowardice, it's about the tort liability run amok that would allow Sony to be sued were there to be an attack on a theater.

I'm sure tort liabilities were a consideration, but is there precedent for not adequately obeying terrorists/preparing third parties for a terrorist attack threatened over the release of your product?

Other than a Joh Grisham novel, is there a developed case law for suing a gun manufacturer for something a third party did? Yet that suit was recently filed. Does anyone doubt that Sony would be sued for a theater attack?
