Nothing like a run in the NCAA's to build some momentum for a capital project: "Baylor football coach Guy Morriss said: 'Anyone who doubts that we need this [fundraising] should fly to the 11 other cities where we've got to play in the Big 12 and see what they've got.'" www.baylorfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76360

Hmmm... makes me wonder....
Washington Post Sports Front Page - April 27, 2006
GEORGETOWN ANNOUNCES ATHLETIC CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
Washington DC - Georgetown University President Jack DeGioia today announced a $100 million capital campaign that would generate funds for a new on-campus basketball arena, a basketball practice facility and varsity sports weight room, complete funding for the long-awaited MultiSport Facility, and renovate Kehoe Field to include a state-of-the-art track facility for the Hoyas track teams.
"Anyone who doubts that we need these [facilities] should check out the other 15 teams we have to play in the Big East and see what they've got," said head basketball coach John Thompson III.
The announcement comes on the heels of a similar $120 million campaign that completes funding for a permanent home for the university's McDonough School of Business and allows construction of a new $100 million science center to commence, as well as Georgetown's successful run to the Elite Eight in last month's NCAA Tournament.

I think Buff's just hedging his bets in case Bowman stays in the draft. That and in case we land DeAndre Thomas or any player with a nickname. Either would mean the end of the program as we know it. Patriot League here we come, right??

"I will pay the way of any university official to sit in the seats of any BE arena. See how they like it. See how their backs like it," John Thompson III said in a statement Tuesday that had local reporters shaking their heads. A University Janitor in attendance stated, "We had a lot of work to do today... a lot of mess in the papers and on the floors." He referred to the reporters in attendance, who commenced hysterical laughter upon hearing Thompson's statement. Many cried uncontrollably, and their tears formed puddles that threatened to warp the floor in a facility that screams out for major renovations.

A very obscure reference to Craig Esherick offering to bring referees in and let them watch Mike Sweetney getting hacked. 2006, eh?

It still makes me laugh. The janitor reference is just an indirect reference to someone who refers to himself as the janitor.

No I got the Esh part - it was the Janitor part that threw me. I think it comes from a Voice article, believe it or not. Someone did a profile of the Janitor earlier in the season. I know that much.

Hopefully this will stamp out any memories of Dave Bliss and get the Baylor program back on track.

We could not possibly do anything for $12 million. Construction costs would far surpass that. Plus, I don't want this done "on the cheap." If we wait 5 more years for a state-of-the-art facility, I'd take that over a stopgap any day.

If I hadn't driven through Waco earlier this year, I'd probably assume Baylor was choosing to build athletic facilities over academic buildings, but BU, apparently attempting to compete with China in the Great Construction Spree, has built both. Everything along University Park Drive is brand-spanking-new, including the new science building. It makes you wonder: Baylor is a middle-of-the-road academic institution with a medium-sized enrollment (around 12,000 undergrad). How can it seemingly achieve facility goals more quickly than GU? Is the ANC that difficult to deal with? Does Baylor have a larger endowment than GU? Is the BU administration just that good at running capital campaigns? With my head full of questions I began to peruse the Baylor website. Check out all the new stuff they have built: www.baylor.edu/facilities_showcase/splash.phpI mean, I don't see how BAYLOR can do all this, and GU struggles to build anything new. Maybe Jack and the boys should be flying down to Waco to learn how things are done. I'll also agree the baseball stadium is great, adding to the glut of quality college diamonds in the state. TCU and Rice also recently built new baseball facilities, Texas Tech just renovated theirs, and UT and Houston have two of the nicer facilites in the nation. Maybe if we moved the Georgetown campus to Odessa the baseball team could get a place to play on campus?

By the way, if you follow the above link and click around you'll eventually see that a new science center (or at least Baylor's new science center) costs over $103 million. Better get that fundraising drive started...
