Unofficially - 1. Michigan State 2. Iowa State 3. New Mexico 4. Georgetown (a point behind 3rd). Podium finish. Difference between 3rd and 4th was about 0.2 s.

The men finish 17th, a bit down from their final ranking at 13, but overall a fairly good result.

Nevada, nice run by your Pilots in the mens race. Thanks! Best finish for the small school (3000 students), better known for their soccer, but since Coach Conner has been there they have gradually improved. First time on the podium, I believe. I already sent Coach Conner a big congrats.

Ahmed Bile started for the men (at least I saw him at the starting line, but didn't seem to finish. Ahmed is the only one I would classify a pure middle distance runner (like Andrea Keklak on the women's side), so the 10K distance was probably too much for him today, and he saw that he would not be in the top 5.

The NCAAs were not the only XC race that the Hoyas participated in today. The IC4A/ECAC were held in NY.
The men finished 3rd to Columbia (65) and Princeton (72) with 86 points. Neither Columbia nor Princeton had teams at the NCAAs. Many of our runners were middle distance types. 8. Cole Williams 25:26.3 9. Amos Bartelsmeyer 25:26.8 13. Mike Lederhouse 25:29.4 27. Mike Crozier 25:52.6 29. Austen Gregor 25:58 51. Connor Sheryak 26:28.6 68. Nick Golebiowski 26:41.7
The women finished 4th to Columbia (49), Villanova (61)(missing the NCAAs this year), Princeton (89) with 120 points. 6. Kennedy Weisner 18:01.1 13. Heather Martin 18:12.1 23. Autumn Eastman 18:28.8 (Autumn had been on the A team earlier in the season) 28. Piper Donaghu 18:40.8 54. Jocelyn Hubbard 19:32.2 69. Aleta Looker 19:52.0

Some more bits and pieces about yesterday's action. There were four runners, who contributed the teams during the year and did not run in either race yesterday. I believe that they were the 8th and 9th runners in both the men's and women's team. In fact, Annamarie Maag and Hannah Neczypor were both on the podium yestherday, although they did not actually run in the race. I believe the teams take 9 runners, in case of last minute injury or illness. The teams that are deep like the Hoyas can do this. On the men side I think Matt Howard and Stephen Kersh were there as part of a nine member team.

More thoughts about the races over the weekend.
The women were 9th after 2K with 309 points. Everybody but Katrina was back in the pack. However, at 4K the Hoyas had moved to 3rd with 172 points to MSU 102 and ISU 142. So it looked good then as everbody gained places vis a vis 2K: Katrina (+2), Sam (+42), Andrea (+67), Haley (+27), Maddy (+48), Sarah (+24), and Kelsey (+83). Apparently, this effort from 2K to 4K spent many of the runners, as only Haley and Andrea gained places in the last 2K and the team went from 3rd to 4th. The team had practiced similar tactics in the regionals, but the national race is a beast of its own.
For the men it was a bit different, as they got out to a good start and were 11th at both 3K and 5K. At 8K they had split to 15th and finished 17th. Ahmed Bile was 107th at 3K and 103rd at 5K, then dropped out before 8K.

Interesting take on next year's XC season:
7. It’s never too early…
The 2014 cross country season may have just finished, and there are a lot of races between now and November 21, 2015, when next year’s NCAA XC Championships will be held in Louisville, Kentucky. Here are next year’s top 10, based on removing the seniors and rescoring (credit to Daily Relay’s Jesse Squire for the legwork). Could the Stanford men trade in silver for gold in 2015?
