By all accounts, we looked good ...very good. Score isn't kept per se, but it it were, it's safe to say we would have gotten our first signature win.
Freshman made contributions and LJ Peak led the team in rebounds, but the upperclassmen stole the show. DSR and Josh led us in scoring. Hop and Reggie were very solid. Think we are going to see a very different Reggie Cameron this year.

Yeah, that was pretty much the consensus from other reports (all except LJ's rebounding). It is a truly good sign indeed that we could take on a team that is drilled like a machine such as UVA. Looks like we're going to have a lot of guys who can contribute this season.

Love to hear that DSR and Josh led in scoring. Almost as nice is that Reggie looked good.

I don't know much but I do know that he dropped some bad weight which can't do anything but help. I'm sure that's not what you're asking though. I'm curious to know how his stroke is looking and if he's looking confident out there. This champing at the bit stuff is killing me!

With Reggie alot of his struggles last year seemed to be mental. Rushing everything/pressing. I think he even mentioned that in one of his pre-season quotes. Losing bad weight and just physically getting stronger as he's matured a year is going to help for sure. He's never going to be a super athlete, but if he's able to hold his own and that stroke of his (that we all know he has) comes back he's exactly how a sniper on a super athletic team will be effective. Asking him to create his own shot is not his game. The kick-outs and step backs from screens are. With the other guys to be able to cover defensively he's a great weapon to have.

Going out on a limb, but IMO we have a better chance at winning the BE and getting back to the tournament this year then in the next few years. This is a pretty stacked team, not solid but stacked. We can make some waves this year barring any major issues. The theme for the team this year is "Improvements", the juniors need to fine tune while Smith, Hopkins, Aaron and Jabril need to solidify their game. The time is NOW, if we can make great strides this year then next year may not be so bad.

I agree with Eastcoast that this "should" be a year of very high expectations. There is a lot of quality depth..for the first time in awhile. There is also skill, size, and athleticism up and down the lineup. Further, although I hope I am wrong...not sure who in the BE is all that strong (maybe Nova.) So, yeah...I agree the time is NOW. Obviously, the frosh will be better as sophs...but not sure with the way recruiting is going, that we will be as deep next year.

We lose Trawick, Bowen, Hopkins and Smith. Presumably sophomore Tre and Peak can cover Trawick and Bowen's minutes (Tre by shifting DSR to SG). Sophomore's Copeland, White and Derrickson should be able handle the 3/4 at least as well as Trawick / Hopkins handle the 3 & 4 respectively (if not better than Hopkins). The big question will be how big the drop off from Smith/Hopkins/Hayes to Govan/Hayes ends up being. That being said, we're still at least 9 deep next year. PG: DSR/Tre SG: Peak/DSR/Copeland SF: Copeland/White/Cameron PF: White/Copeland/Derrickson/Cameron C: Govan/Hayes

Maybe I am delusional, but I think that despite his deficiencies, an older, somewhat slimmed down Josh Smith will be a very big weapon on offense for us this year, and Hopkins at the power forward and backup center is pretty nice, as well. They will both be gone next year, and not sure if Govan/hayes will come close to that. Definitely not worried about next year...just feel THIS year's team is stacked.

Especially losing a true center and the defense that Jabril brings to the table.

The hope is that Sophomore Copeland/White and a freshman Derrickson are as big, if not bigger, an improvement at PF over freshman Copeland/White than the drop off from Smith/Hopkins to Govan/Hayes. Guess we'll see, but really, we're set up for two big years if Smith can step up this year and Govan can step up next year.

I expect a great second half of the year, but believe that there are going to be growing pains throughout the first 15 games. Not realistic to expect freshmen to come in and excel as a group or individually against tough competition. Also, it seems that when you have so many new bodies, and you must include Josh Smith in that category, there is a learning curve. Recall that as good as Porter was, his first season was erratic and he did not really "take off" until Whittington left the team. By the middle of the conference season this team should be clicking, but everyone should be prepared for at least a few bumps in the road as they learn to adapt to each other.
