I think it's a real stretch to say that he will take DSR's starting spot. If Tre was that good then he would have been ranked 5 stars. Even McDonalds American Chris Wright did not take over Jonathan Wallace or Jessie Sapp's spot his freshman year so I don't see how someone who is ranked much lower in Tre is supposed to send DSR to the bench barring injury.

I don't think anyone thinks he is going to take our best players starting spot. If he did start DSR would play shooting guard and someone else wouldn't start. To be clear I don't think he is starting. Maybe he we will be a solid defensive sub for 5 minutes a game.

We can agree to disagree YaBoy, but I think JTIII is sending the love to Tre because he needs his head straight and get him ready to contribute this year.
Btw, I've been calling Tre as sleeper recruit since he signed, and I think he will surprise to the upside. So, I'm a big proponent. I don't think Dozier is a threat to Tre big picture. We need both.
But when the staff is soooo focused on Dozier, out of town, chasing the dream of a McD-AA caliber PG, the new PG on your team who might get have a baptism by fire his freshman year, needs the love before the season begins.
It's not a coincidence, especially since JTIII never says stuff like this. Why else would he choose to do so at this time?

Tre has been actively recruiting another PG for this team since he arrived on campus. He spent nearly the entire weekend with Crawford during his official visit and is excited at the notion of possibly landing someone like Dozier. Tre knows that he will be a 4 year kid who will have an important role on this team but he doesn't necessarily feel the need to be "the guy". In the end, III's comments should be taken at face value....3 guys are getting all the attention and he believes a 4th is deserving as well.

Well that escalated quickly. If he's an NBA guy after 2 seasons I will forever believe everything you type thereafter.

Tre had a good amount of trouble fighting through/around screens but he didn't look remotely tentative. The speed of the game didn't look too fast for him either. He's another of the young guys that is going to be fun to watch develop throughout the year. The quicker he comes along and can give quality minutes, the better it'll be for DSR and the team if Trawick has games in which he picks up early fouls. Tre's got a nice looking stroke too and is quick enough to be a real bother on the press.

He's got long arms - reminds me of Jason Clark. I think he could be a similar player to Clark - 4 year contributor, plays within himself, good defender, evolving offensive game.

It's only one game, but I really liked what I saw. Potential to be a good one for us.

I was surprised to see how comfortable he looked out on the court. These next two games will be important before being thrown into the fire vs Florida.

I think he was awful in the first half on the defensive end, but in ways that make me optimistic about his future. He's obviously fast, but seemed (at least to me) to be noticeably quick as well. He's got quick feet and good lateral movement, it's just that in his over exuberance as a freshman, those quick movements were taking him way out of position. Once he understands team defense better as he matures, I think he has the potential to be a great defender at the 1. I was also impressed by his shooting form. If for no other reason than that, he'll be a contributor this year, and it bodes well for what he'll become going forward.

After he really gets it down, seems like the type of defender who will use his quickness to pester you to death.

If for no other reason than that, he'll be a contributor this year, and it bodes well for what he'll become going forward. Yeah, he was so active early on that he'd skitter and jump right out of his opponents way, gave the guy a path to the basket a couple of times bouncing around and over-anticipating. That said, the turnover he forced in the second half was pure intimidation (the over and back). Dude was just scared of Tre getting up on him. There's definite shades of Vee Sanford here but it looks like he's already earned III's trust. He didn't have to play yesterday but he did. Add in Elvado's great point about his wingspan, which I noticed, too, and he could be a really strong defender down the road. He also only committed one PF in 15 minutes, which is nice. Agree on the shooting as well. He has the natural stroke. We'll see what he ends up at, but he may end up one of best three point shooters this year (which may not be hard).

Has potential to be a very good 2 way player.. On this team if he can pressure the ball and knock down open shots he will play..

Overall, I am very pleased with what Tre has brought.
I did have one moment of frustration. In the 2nd half of the Wisconsin, Tre found himself with ball on the left baseline isolated against Frank Kaminsky. He has the quickness to blow past and get a foul. Instead he passed out of it.
Next time, he has that kind of mismatch, he has to exploit it.

Ups and downs like most freshmen. Needs to get to that point where the game slows down and things are clearer for him, but he has speed and talent. Good things ahead.
