remember back when hoyas signed cambell,i said he is going to be a star?everyone was he is ok but needs this or that.i said write it down back then, that he will be a star. now you see jt3 saying he is even better than he thought he was going to be right now.he said he can really guard and has speed really fast speed. i think eveyone is going to see the starting point guard tre cambell before half the season is over.maybee to start the season. i do not know much but do know talent when i see it,even sometimes before everyone else sees it develope. i watch all the high school kids and my rankings is a little bit diferent from the rivals and espn. my uncle bob gibson use to be on of the best at it. i know my bball. go hoyas.

I was there with you jctn. He was the starting pg on the best summer league team. He led his high school team to a surprise 1st place finish. The kid is good a winner and "I want winners" ......

I hope you are right. Tre being a star would make this class incredible.

Tre being awesome would take this class to a ridiculous level. In my best case scenario I used to think 2 freshmen would contribute serious minutes this year. Now 4 seems like a possibility. That's crazy.

I doubt he starts this year, though.

I doubt he starts this year, though. No way we starts, but if he can play solid spot minutes as a back up pg....that would be huge.

I love and loathe the waning days of the offseason. I hope jctn is correct (as I'm sure we all do) but it's a bit early to be patting oneself on the back. Being fast doesn't require a keen eye for evaluation but, that said, it's great to hear that he's further along than the staff had hoped. There's likely zero chance he starts day one or by midseason even if only because of the current personnel. That said, if he gets substantial minutes and is productive in those minutes, that's a HUGE help for this squad this year and, even more so, going into next. Then again, it's still the offseason and not one ounce of hope has been yet drained. I hope jctn is dead-on.

Those quotes from III surprised me, he is not one to publicly praise individual players before they even play a game. That coudl be an indicator of a much bigger role for Campbell than originally thought. Agree with the majority though, DSR has the point locked down and I am sure that DSR is very excited about being the lead guard since that is his only credible path to getting even a look from the NBA. That said, no reason a player that can be a spirited defender and good ball handler will not see significant minutes on this team. I am hoping all the freshman pleasantly surprise us this season.

If anything, to not have DSR and Trawick playing 35+ mpg would be a good thing come March.

Agreed. I fully expect DSR will get 35+ minutes a game, and Trawick could be close, as well, but you would prefer to allow them rest in situations where 35+ minutes is not necessary (for example, in blowouts or against some of the easier teams in the fall). Even in Markel Starks' freshman year with Wright, Freeman, and Clark, Starks still got nearly 10 minutes a game, and he played in nearly every game. I think we could expect something similar from Tre if he's ready for it.*
* Part of this will also depend on if guys like Peak or White get some time at the guard positions. If so, that could diminish opportunity for Campbell, but I still think he'll play because he's the only true guard who can come in for DSR or Trawick.

It's pretty clear to me why JTIII went public about Tre's play. We are in a very public recruiting battle to land a high profile PG from class of 2015. These comments reinforce to Tre that he is a valued piece to the puzzle and that JTIII is not recruiting over him. Extremely savvy comments by JTIII in preparing for this season and making everyone feel good about their place on the team.
I'm sure Tre has played well enough to earn the accolades, but the public comment is no accident, believe me.

I disagree Ranch. I do not believe the 2 are related in any way. Tre knows this is big time b-ball and he has to earn his spot like everyone else on the team.
We already know Tre’s fast and 3 has made the same comments about him being “ahead” on the defensive side of the ball previously.

Two words, Chris Wright. You've gotta have more then one capable point on a squad. When Chris went down that year, we were sunk. Tre should know that even if he is the guy sophomore year, there could be injuries, foul trouble, getting sick or any number of reasons why you need two pg's at a minimum. There will also be some line-ups where other teams dictate that a smaller guard isn't a great fit on D. Tre doesn't strike me as a DIckerson type who questions his abilities based on those recruited around him.
