And 26th in the Coaches Poll too. Guess that survival win over Charlotte was more impressive than we all thought, haha. If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs . . . "If" by Rudy Kipling, a great poem. There was a time when I had to know it word by word.

This is as good as thread to post this as any...
Notre Dame's SOS is currently #308!!! Yes, you read that correctly. 308.
Of the BE teams GTown is easily the best at #12. Meanwhile Seton Hall clocks in at #101 and Xavier at #86.

Yeah, but it is Notre Dame, so we don't worry about strength-of-schedule.

Losses this week for #3 Arizona, #9 Texas, #10 Kansas, #11 Wichita State and #13 Washington. Looks like #12 Iowa State and #14 Utah will be moving up into the Top Ten. I'm thinking the Hoyas could get into the Top 25 over #24 Colorado State, which had a very unimpressive win against New Mexico State. Maybe. I won't be shocked if we are still on the outside looking in.

TCU's best win is Ole Miss (Kenpom 78) I know that's impressive to a Creighton fan.
Colorado St's best win is Colorado (Kenpom 70). Colorado also had 4 other loses including Wyoming, and Hawaii.
San Diego St's has equally good wins (21, 45) but slightly worse loses (8, 46, 55)
Oklahoma has 3 loses too : 4, 46, and worst of all 76 and best wins are 35 and 59.
Northern Iowa: Best wins are 41 and 58.
Ohio St's best win is #98 Marquette.

Yeah, I think there are a lot of voters who really don't care about the unwritten rules of not dropping if you don't lose. I think we will be ranked. Seth Davis put us at #22 FWIW. What probably matters the most is that we were on TV before UK and lots more people saw us win...

Louisville was expected to lose to them. Considering the final score, I wouldn't be shocked if L'ville didn't drop at all. Though it was a home loss. Maybe one slot?

Meanwhile Seton Hall clocks in at #101 and Xavier at #86. Quite the contrast between RPI SOS (GU currently at 15) and KenPom (GU currently at 85). Hoyas have the best SOS in the BE in either ranking (Pomeroy's SOS ranking is dominated by low majors who have been getting slaughtered in guarantee games), no other BE team cracks the top 100 in KenPom's rankings. The SOS will, of course, improve with conference play while the SWAC and MEAC teams sink due to playing each other, but let's not go talking about what a murderers row GU faced pre-conference quite yet.

The SOS will, of course, improve with conference play while the SWAC and MEAC teams sink due to playing each other, but let's not go talking about what a murderers row GU faced pre-conference quite yet. The point, though (as you note), is that we've played as good a non conference schedule as virtually any high-major team. Depending on your definition of high-major, there are only around ten teams with better SOS marks, even under the Pomeroy system. So, maybe it hasn't been a murderer's row, but everything is relative when it comes to these things. We'll likely end the year with (at worst) a top 20 SOS in both metrics. In any event, I'd rather play teams with artificially high RPIs than the opposite (the opposite being bad RPI teams that actually are pretty good under a better metric like Pomeroy). The latter is the worst possible non-conference game to schedule. Our non-conference schedule, combined with the league's overall non-conference performance, has done exactly what we need for it to do. That is, if we perform very well in the conference (top two), we'll likely not only get in the NCAAs but we'll get a top four seed. If we perform in some middling fashion (finish fourth through sixth), we'll very likely get into the NCAAs without much angst. And if we finish worse than that? Well, we don't deserve a bid anyway.

Heck, I thought we would land somewhere between #21-23. Congratulations to the team, however.

Sort of figured we wouldnt get ranked in the Coaches. I should have clarified that while the AP voters dont go by rules of who lost and who didnt, Im almost certain most coaches just fill out the same poll every week and move teams that lose down and win up. Probably their assistants do it.
