We'll 100% be ranked. I've read several individual ballots over twitter and they all have GU. My guess is #23.

Not included in Top 25 by Feinstein, Vitale, and Gary Williams. Seth Davis put us in at #21.

We are definitely a fringe top 25 team right now, and that Xavier loss was a bad show. Happy to still be in there though.

Agree, guru, and I'm not worked up about it. Just showing the guys who determined to leave us off the list in basically a 50/50 in/out situation.

Meanwhile in College Park they lose two of their last three by a combined 33 points and need last minute heroics from Dez Wells to beat Big Ten botton-feeder Northwestern by a single point, yet they remain ranked at #17 down only one from #16 last week. If they had lost all three would they still be ranked ahead of the Hoyas and VCU?

Twelve of the Top 25 suffered defeats this past week: #6 Arizona, #8 Kansas, #10 Notre Dame, #11 Iowa State, #12 North Carolina, #15 West Virginia (twice), #17 Maryland, #18 Virginia Commonwealth, #20 Ohio State, #23 Southern Methodist, #24 Georgetown (twice) and #25 Texas.
Probably looking at three new teams in the Top 25 next week.

Villanova up one slot to #6 in the Associated Press, leapfrogging over Arizona. Butler moves up four slots to #18 in the Associated Press, jumping over West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia Commonwealth and Ohio State. Two new teams in the AP Top 25 (Oklahoma State at #22, Arkansas at #24), as GU and Texas drop out.

Cincinnati loses to one of the worst teams in an upper tier conference (East Carolina) and gets a good deal more votes than last week. I get they beat SMU, but it's not like SMU is fantastic. SMU has two top 50 wins against Tulsa and Temple. Maryland has lost three of their last 5. Those three losses were by an average of nearly twenty points, but somehow squeaking out wins against teams like Northwestern and Penn St allows them only to drop a couple of spots. These polls rarely make sense, especially towards the bottom

By comparison, our best road win is against 115th ranked Marquette. Win games at SH, Butler and SJU, and we will rocket back up in voters and committee's minds. I think we can bounce back.

We can't be complaining about other teams getting more votes than the Hoyas, or not dropping out of the Top 25, after (a) blowing the Providence game after dissipating a double-digit second-half lead, and (b) getting run out of Wells Fargo Center by Villanova. It's a different argument if we were winning. . .but we're not.

By no means was I implying that I thought we should be ranked at this point, although it may have seemed that way. I simply do not understand the rationale that some voters use in creating their polls. While I do understand that a road win over a top 25 RPI team is hard to come by, I just think SMU has a surprisingly inflated RPI. They have a total of 6 top 100 wins. In addition to Temple and Tulsa, the have wins over Memphis, Michigan, Wyoming, and Eastern Washington as their top 100 wins. That's not an overly impressive resume. Another example is SDSU: they got pounded by BSU and snuck by 5-15 Nevada, looking terrible in both games. Yet they still are receiving a decent amount of votes. My gripe is not with where Georgetown is ranked (or not ranked). We haven't played like a top 25 team in two weeks (except Creighton). Watching those games, I'm surprised that some voters still believe us to be top 25. I'm simply saying that reasonable justification for many of their votes is often lacking, especially towards the bottom of the polls.

That seems to be the primary factor in the rankings and then any outlier from that is based off SOS, RPI and quality wins. Honestly the win-loss record as the primary factor works better for football IMO but it is the easiest/laziest way to rank the teams for the voters. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings

Yeah, I hear you. I was just using us as example. I do think voters care a lot about road wins.
