blueandgray Twitter said Jagan Mosely was showing him around. I'm surprised it wasn't Trey. I bet PE2 must be big too.

I have no inside information on this recruitment...never do when its a legacy kid. If we do land JJJ...he'll be the most celebrated recruit in my mind since Greg Monroe. At least in terms of "rankings" Ike was a 5 star recruit according to ESPN..he finished as the #16 recruit in the country. He may have been a bit lower on other services. JJJ is a 4 star and #26 on ESPN...although could finish higher. Anyway..just reminding folks that Ike was quite a get for us..at least at the time! Copeland was RSCI #28, which takes into account an average score across several different recruiting sites. ESPN had him ranked higher than any other service. sites.google.com/site/rscihoops/home/2014-finalMy guess is Jackson, Jr. ends up higher than 28 on RSCI.

I'm not just talking about where the kid is ranked....more so the buzz around the kid and what it would mean for the program to land him. Porter was big, so was Copeland and Peak....but for some reason that I can't really put my finger on...this would be big.

Especially after Peak won that high school game 3 vs 5 and was regularly dropping fifty.

From what I am hearing...the visit went well. He spent a good amount of his time getting to know the fellas on the team. That said, he's at Maryland today!

I just don't get the Maryland connection or interest. Purdue or Michigan State are understandable, but the Terps?

B&G, some posters have suggested Jaren hasn't done enough to push his hyper-talented son to GU. My recollection, second hand, is different. Could easily be incorrect. But here it is. My understanding was the kid had no interest in GU whatsoever. He grew up in Indiana. Loved the place. Huge Basketball state. He wasn't really aware of GU at all, other than some place his dad played, once upon a time. Think about what we felt about our own dads.... they went to college way back in the days of ancient history! Getting back to the story, Jaren talked up GU and brought his son to DC to get an introduction to the city, GU, the team and the Thompsons. Without Jaren's initiative, we would not be anywhere in the conversation. I should add, while Jaren did introduce his kid to GU, he was not going to push him to attend -- which is the right thing to do in my view. It is Jr's life, his career, his educational opportunity, his college experience. Do you know if the above accurately (more or less) captures the series of events? If so, I'd say Jaren has gone above and beyond on behalf of GU. FYI: I thought I recalled hearing Jaren was the reason Jeff Green chose GU over his childhood dream of MD. Thanks.

Yes she did...my question is whether he came alone for his visits (here and MD.), or was he accompanied by his parents...my understanding was that these visits were unofficial...which could conceivably be followed by officials at some point (like Oct. 5th weekend when we could really "bring out all the guns" for dedication weekend).

It seems like legacies are tricky, especially when it comes to big time sports. I wonder what GU could try to sell to a legacy that the kid wouldn't already know or see right through. In the end, I feel it's going to come down to Jaren as a person and not Jaren the player. What GU runs isn't going to limit him in the least. If anything, he fits really well and could shine if we're keeping the main principles. Does he want to play where his das played and outshine him or, at the least, challenge that history? Some people view that as following in footsteps. Some view it as another challenge. GU and the basketball team aren't remotely the same as when his dad attended but, because his parents attended, it may seem like his parents' school. That could hurt or help and I can't imagine any amount of coaching staff or player interaction will change how he already felt about attending his parents' alma mater prior to the dog and pony stuff. I love the family connections. But I also respect that young people want to take different paths. I hope JJJ ends up a Hoya because it says something about how his parents felt and feel about the University and that their child wants in on that. If, however, he goes elsewhere, it's difficult to question that desire. It'll sting (especially if it's Maryland) if he goes elsewhere for sure but it won't be shocking or difficult to get why he does.

I remember when I was choosing a college, I came to Georgetown for the second time ever are having a sort of neutral attitude after my first visit (first time was a dreary gray day in August right before senior year of high school). After I got in, I came for a GAAP weekend, and I got to not only see the school but also meet some of my potential classmates. In a lot of ways, that's what sealed the deal for me. I liked the school but I also liked the people too. And, fit and who you're going to be seeing every day is way more important on a basketball team than a normal college student. So, let's hope he got along really well with the guys.

This seems to make sense sirsaxa...but the truth is, I have no idea. Neither does the staff. They really like Jaren, but like you said, it's his life and his decision to make.

I agree with those that have said that the longer the process takes, the better things may get for the Hoyas. I hope that JJJ is weighing his options carefully and taking his time to make this critical decision. I sincerely want the best for him and his family, and while I hope that means Georgetown, we will have to see what he decides.
Best wishes to what appears to be a fine young man and a great family.

I thought his interest in Maryland was because of family members in the area live in that area.

Contenders: Since the end of July, Jackson has been on a visit spree that has allowed him to see Maryland, Michigan State and Purdue. He’s also seen Notre Dame from the ACC and Georgetown from the Big East. Analysis: Though Notre Dame is a potential darkhorse and even though Jackson’s father played at Georgetown, he is looking like he’ll end up in the Big Ten. Maryland has been considered a slight favorite for a bit now but Michigan State and Purdue have both helped their cause. Wherever he lands, Jackson could prove to be a bigger get than his lofty ranking, he’s still just 16 years old and has immense upside. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/bossi-s-best-the-nation-s-top-intra-conference-recruiting-battles

Terps flew to see JJJ first thing Friday morning. Is he still not planning on taking any official visits?
