From my friend in Crete: Several of the Greek players are or will be playing for US colleges next year (Mitoglou for Wake Forest, Dorsey for Oregon next yr, etc.).
I said that Dorsey didn't sound Greek.
He went on to explain: Yeah, he doesn't really look Greek either. However, there is an interesting story behind it. The Oregon coach was recently in Greece trying to recruit a Greek player 2.15 m and during the visit he mention that "we have another Greek player on the team for next year". The Greek official didn't know what he meant because there were no Greek names that he knew. Then the Oregon coach mentioned that Dorsey's mothers side was all Greek. The Greeks then contacted his family and asked for documents as proof of his Greek ancestry. They found documents that proved that his mothers grandfather was from Athens, Greece. So after allot of bureaucracy he was invited to join the team. During one of the U19 games he actually wore a jersey with his mothers maiden name on it. Anyway, he is a great player and I hope he has a good carrier and plays for the Greek Mens National Team as well someday!
NOte: Georgetown also tried to recruit him, so you almost had a Greek player. He made it into the top 5 MVPs of the U19 Championship. He is a joy to watch!
