I must admit I hate the ACC, but Weber didn't exactly win me over with that awful jacket.

I will wait to post on the official "I hate the ACC" thread. One of my friends over for the game went to Duke - his fiance called during the game with a very important question -- which Dookys would make the final cut for the table names at their wedding. (because I couldn't find the smily that pukes)

Unnnnnggghhhh so much for all that money I would have made if Illinois won. God I hate the ACC. It's not that I even hate UNC that much ordinarily (far less evil in my eyes than Duke or the rotten Twerps), but ugh, the ACC love fest has just got to go. Billy pACCker trying to get them to call illegal screens on the Illini in the final minute? I mean, come on.
And more than that, I really did like this Illini team. No one real standout that's just head and shoulders above anyone else... just a real solid team from top to bottom, and I dunno, I liked them and Bruce Weber's jacket. And Deron Williams, oh man, rocks the size of Saturn on that guy. I hope he keeps playing for a loooong time.

I realized during the title game I really hate that ILLINOIS team.
What a bunch of overrated chumps.
They play like a team, but outside of Deron Williams, they all are unblieveably overrated.
James Augustin? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN!? Ingram showed more in the tournement than him.
Dee Brown? Wow, he's fast and stuff! The guy contributes nothing to the offense but random spot up 3's and speedy lay ups...that's it. But his shot isn't even consistent, he goes 2-7...then randomly gets hot and goes 5-6...then another 1-5 day and the cycle continues...I swear it's his appearance and speed that gets him half of his (undeserved) attention.
But at least he passes the ball like Luther HEAD, who always seems to be the open shooter, and when he's not...he'll shoot anyway. He reversed the ball a la Brown and Williams exactly twice during the entirety of las tnight's game and that is how he got all his shots. And his shot? Almost as streaky as Brown's. Furthermore, he's got no game off the dribble and his defense is painfully average on the ball.
Deron Williams and Powell are solid...the rest are bums. Luther Head could make an NBA career off his team's near-perfect season just because of all the undeserved attention he resieved this year.

They took the most talented team in the NCAA (which isn' really saying much) down to the wire after being down by like double-digits. What more would they have to do in your eyes for them to be a good team. I'm not saying Illinois was the greatest team to win 37 games. But they were a good team this year in a medicore year for college basketball.

I don't post that much, but this thread warrants it so bad. I'm dreading the next 8 months of nonsense articles by Dookie V, Seth Davis and the rest talking about UNC and the ACC.
UNC is nothing but a glorified Globetrotters team. If these guys weren't talented, they'd be useless. They've yet to run a single set-play this year. Can't wait for these guys to declare for the draft and leave us the hell alone.
A'1 remember all the talk of 3 ACC teams in the Final 4? That was before Wake got beaten by the 8th seed in the BE.
But it'll never stop. They'll go on and on about it over and over again. OH GOD help me!!!

I don't think there's anything to complain about the way the game was called. Illinois was so clearly moving on so many of their screens, I thought John Chaney was going to send someone in to rough them up. Give Carolina credit for playing like the Big East team, putting it inside, and thumbs down to Illinois for shooting threes like Duke.
This was a very entertaining game, and I think that we should all appreciate the way that Illinois whips the ball around. I love the way the played all year, but when you live by the three you can also die by the three.

Serenity now. SERENITY NOW! Just remember this season as the start of the Hoya rebirth, think about BB, Jeff, Hibbs and the freshmen next season, and dream about all that JTIII will do for this program - and to Hades with the All Clown Conference.

I think the Illini are pretty nasty. Outside of one bad turnover and a couple of wide open missed threes at the end, and we are talking about a different champion this morning. May was too much to handle but I think the refs could have called a couple on him for backing in. I also think two of the calls on Augustine were garbage especially when they are letting guys bang like that inside. Brown is a great defender although I think he will be too short for the NBA without more offensive game. Head is solid, Powell plays like he is ten inches taller, and Williams is legit. Give them their props. I think it is very difficult for a jump shooting team to win six straight against very good competition and I think we can learn a lesson from this. It will be imperative to get inside scoring from Jeff & Roy next year to go deep in the tourney. Hoyas national champs in '06? I like the sound of that. Where is the final four next year because I need to make travel plans?

I would have no problem giving UNC full credit for the championship if I could just get that Villanova call out of my mind. UNC should have been out.

Carolina does not play Big East-style basketball. Carolina plays ACC-style. Carolina is a soft team. Illinois screens weren't bad. They weren't shoving forearms or elbows.

i love this revisionism that this year had mediocre talent in the NCAAs...i mean, really? You are looking at a team with 4 first rounders potentially and a borderline first rounder in jawad williams...how is this team overrated or not that talented? someone answer me that. Also, IL fought like hell and it was an exciting game...they just couldn't stop the truck in the middle May - but let's not start calling him Barkley just yet - he has great control of the glass, but not much else of a game.

I realized during the title game I really hate that ILLINOIS team. I don't think they were a bunch of overrated chumps, but those players just didn't win you over. The UNC kids, despite getting a coach fired, really worked hard and it showed. In spite of my hatred towards all things ACC, I was pulling for the Tar Heels, especially after L'ville got bumped out. That said... Nova should have been the Final Four team out of the Syracuse bracket.

after Georgetown I eventually spent business school in Charlottesville and had to swallow 2 years of that rotten league- the arrogance and sense of entitlement were stifling.
my favorite ACC moment will always be the '77 title game and Dean going to the Four Corners against Marquette too early. Take that, you over-blown, over-rated, over-coached collection of prima-donnas.

Wow, Ryan, that's a great post, I couldn't agree more. How many times were we told this season that there would be 3 ACC teams in the Final 4. They BARELY had 1 in the Elite 8!
How can someone not like Ill. They play b-ball the way it should be played. Great passing, shot selection and D. Sucks that they had their first mental breakdown on the biggest stage, but who can blame them. It was the Final game and e'1 has butterflies.

Sean May is never going to be a good player in the pros...just like his father's game never really translated to the pro level. Remember Scott May was the college player of the year and a 1st round draft pick and average 10 points and 4 rebounds a game over a 7 year period.
May will measure out at 6'8'' or so which will hurt his stock in the draft.
The guy will never be able to get up and down the floor to guard atheletic "4" men in the NBA. He has no real face up game and beats up on smaller guys at the college level.
My guess is he becomes a "rotation" guy who is a 7th or 8th man and gets 15-20 minutes a game.
Don't get me wrong...the kid is a hell of a college player, but the NBA is littered with 6'8'' PFs who dominated in college and then get killed at the next level.
The NBA is a totally different animal than college.
