Someone else on this board said it better, but I can't remember who. To paraphrase, "I would root for the all-Nazi team if they were playing anyone from the ACC." (or maybe it was the all-alQaeda team).
If I'm Illinois, I'm pretty Editeded. Number 1 virtually all year, one loss, steamrolled most everyone in their way, and yet remain underdogs to the team everyone says is "more talented." The fact that they do not seem to be Editeded is probably why they're more successful than me and the best team in the country.
I'm really not sure what that "more talented" means. This is a college game, not an NBA scouting combine. Yes, Illinois should have lost to Arizona. Then again, UNC probably should have lost to 'Nova. Other than that one game, I see no reason why I should think Illinois can't beat the team in front of them...once again.
I'm not much for predictions, but I sure hope Illinois wins. In the spirit of the thread, I'll call it 76-68.
Next year, I expect to see more than one or two Brandon Bowman and Jeff Green highlights in "One Shining Moment."

86-73 Illini. Felton will be frazzled by their D and the illini are going to impress with inside D against May.

Ugh... going to be a long night I fear.

I hope Illinois wins so UNC can go home crying. I get sick and tired about hearing how much the seniors and juniors went through so much at UNC. Yeah, they got their coach fired because they wouldn't play for him, and they exited the second round last year because they didn't believe in Roy Williams style of coaching. What spoil brats! I get sick about hearing how much Marvin Williams is a top 3 pick. How Raymond "Ed Cota and Mateen Cleaves are my idols" Felton is so fast. How Sean "Chubby Checker" May is so dominant. How Rashad "Don't you know who I am!!?" McCants is such a superior player. I just want UNC to lose so badly. Please Illinois, beat these scrubs.

I'll say it for Jack.
uh, dude, Clutter
;D
Illini by 2. Little or no defense played. Roy Williams gets "cold chills" leading his alma mater into battle, but Gene Keady coaches first national championship vicariously from behind the bench.

In fact, Dee Brown will hit the game winning shot and Gene Keady's "hair-piece" will fly off from him jumping for joy!!

Best Game of Tournament in terms of matchups as Felton/Brown will be fun to watch with the speed at guard spots, and Williams/McCants will be good because Williams is the polar opposite in terms of attitude--he's aggressive--you won't see him standing trying to pick up loose balls, he's going to be on the floor going after it. But key matchup for this game is one that's underlooked---Luther Head being defended by Manuel/Noel. If they can limit Head's offense, Illini are in trouble. I have a hard time seeing Roger Powell shooting like that again from perimeter, and I'll take UNC's inside game over Illinois.
To me the Head/Manuel or Noel matchup decides the game. If Head scores well, the Illini win. If he's limited or struggles, they're in trouble.
Now Weber should be able to outcoach Cryin' Roy by simply using his motion offense to get good shots, but that will take discipline and Illinois in Tournament has thrown up far too many 3 pt shots for my taste. They got a reprieval in Arizona game for playing stupid offensively but won't against UNC because Heels can score on anyone. To me Felton is someone you can limit/take out of game by simply playing halfcourt basketball and then breaking on opportunities. If you try to run with UNC for entire game you'll get spanked because they have comfort in that type of game. More possessions in a game be it BB or FB and better team wins---and I think UNC is offensively more diverse and talented than Illinois. Augustine and Ingram are nice players, but May is better than both and Marvin/Jawad Williams are more talented in all around game than Ingram--they can rebound, block shots, shoot from perimeter, and post up. Ingram is a face up player. Augustine will have to defend May and his offense suffers when having to play defense.
Should be a fun game, and while I could see UNC winning, I think Illinois is destined to win after the win against Arizona, all the signs leading them here--getting to play close to home, etc... and finally watching some of the crap Roger Powell threw up go in the other night, says they'll win and we'll get to see Cryin' Roy interviewed by Bonnie Bernstein again--wonder if he'll repeat the "I could give a BLEEP about UNC" speech tonight if they lose?
Weber's annoying voice will be king tonight, and then Enberg will wax poetic about Weber's dead mom, in his annoying Homoerotic poems that CBS seems to think everyone loves--as he'll repeat this at the Masters this upcoming Sunday.

Illini win 76-69. UNC is victimized by their coach's choking tendency, the players choking tendency and the fact that they are an ACC team and therefore are sucking personified.

I've recently been released from the Insane "HATE" I had for Carolina and will actually be cheering FOR them this year...
But because I'm cheering for them, that's a guaranteed loss for the Heels...

By recently you must mean very early this season, because you've kinda had a man-crush on these guys all year.

I guess I've been 'on them' so hard because they were my pre-season pick...and I hate to be wrong... But the more Billy Packer and others rode McCants, the more I had to cheer for him to do well...as long as they weren't playing anyone in the MEAC, SWAC or the Hoyas... I have a cousin that was a JV basketball coach at Carolina, and he just couldn't understand why we hated Carolina so much... Most of the hate I had for them was definitely 'off the court' stuff...although I haven't forgotten about it, I had to let go of it and move on... Doesn't make me a Heels' fan, but I can definitely appreciate the talent and 'good play' I've seen out of them this year...

Well, here's my dilemma.
I hate the ACC.
I have nothing against Roy Williams, and I think his choke label is a bad rap, but he is coaching UNC, and I hate the ACC.
I would love to see all of the commentators who have been sucking up to the ACC all year take one final blow in the shorts.
Illinois has won more NCAA tournament games without ever winning a championship than any other school. So why not now?
I like the way Illinois plays, with the 3-guard offense.
But I picked UNC to win in the Hoyatalk pool, and if UNC wins, I win the pool, as I currently stand tied for 5th, and am the highest ranking person to have picked UNC.
So what do I do? ;D

And then you can put 2005 Hoyatalk Bracket Challenge Champion in your signature, just like last year's champ, Joe Hoya...
