Sailing is not really a spectator sport.

As someone who has long advocated that ESPN post all women's scores in pink on the bottom of the screen (so you don't have that Holy--Tennessee-is-KILLING-Duke-oh-wait-it's-womens moment), I am probably the last person that should post regarding this topic.
However, I think we all may be missing the point. If we can't get good crowds for Men's Basketball (something we don't do with any regularity), why should we expect anyone at all to show up for any other sports? Sure it's closer, but MCI is a hell of a lot closer than USelessAir, and I don't think it's improved our student crowds. This is especially true when they charge money for them. I don't know what a women's bball ticket goes for, but as I recall they were like $5. Now I know I'll be showing my age, but that was the vast majority of a pitcher of a Tombs Busch last I checked, which for the average student probably has a lot more appeal than mediocre womens basketball.
Also, something that hasn't been noted as of yet is the role of the student athletes themselves. The people I knew that played sports never made any attempt to recruit for themselves. Now I'll grant that possibly they just didn't like me, and therefore didn't want me to come, but assuming that wasn't the case, the primary people that should be encouraging attendance are the players themselves. Sure, HoyaBlue has some responsibility here as well, but if the players can't recruit anyone beyond their own girl/boy-friends to show up, then there is little hope for the rest of us.

I agree with the above. At least to the extent that he is kind of saying, "Doesn't everyone know that we are talking about women's basketball and that it is right for no one to care?"
And if that isn't what he is saying, then perhaps I am projecting a little.
Anyway, 7/8's of a pitcher of High Life (or even better, Busch) at the Tombs is way better than underwater basketball (which is what watching women's hoops looks like, men playing underwater).

There is a market for Women's basketball in DC. The mystics have won attendence champions in the WNBA for years. Just have to promote the sport more.

I used to go with the Band. It was not as fun as the Men's team, but it was still fun. Especially since you could easily walk to the games and all the opposing players could hear every distracting thing you said.

for the band people posting on this topic -
if you could have earned your BET and NCAA points (or whatever your system was called) without going to women's basketball games, would you have ever gone to a women's basketball game?

Yeah that's close enough to what I was saying. Mmmm 87.5% of a pitcher of Busch. Bill

I might have still gone to a women's game here or there, if some other folks were headed that way.
As for inappropriate cheers, nothing will beat "chap-pa-quid-ick" *clap clap clapclapclap*
