What excites me is that the game ahead of it on FS1 starts at 7:30 and the Gtown-Xavier game starts at 10. Please, Lord, let this be an indication that the folks at FOX realized their mistake last season of not having that 30 minute cushion between games just in case the games go over their 2 hour time slot. The 2 1/2 hour gap is for NYE and one or two weekend slates during the year. Rest of the time, still 2 hour gaps. Boo.

The only way to spice up the schedule is to go undeafeated in league play for as long as possible - winning cures a lot of ills. I guess Kansas will have to be the Gray Out game. And that falls right before exam week. Gonna be tough to fork out that TX to DC airfare this year.

I actually really like our schedule. It works out great for me. I'm on fall break when the schedule kicks off and I'm on Spring break when it ends. Road games with Villanova and St. John's are both on Saturdays so should allow for lots of hoyas to make the trip to those games. Providence is on a weekend and in a good time of the year that I can probably make that trip too and @ butler is during spring break so I might try to make that trip as well.
Plus we got a Saturday night game like we've always been clamoring for! Plus some later afternoon Saturday games instead of the usual 12pm and 1pm games. Not surprised per se, but a little that no one has brought this up or is excited for this.

Well, I mean, duh. Is anyone unaware that the Big East's biggest problem is it's lack of top tier teams? One year into this new conference, competitive and entertaining is pretty good. We really need to step it up the next few years regular season and post season for the conference and for ourselves.

I mean... sure. On the other hand, it's not like there's something inherent about Louisville or Kansas that screams "national appeal." I like KU just fine, my stepdad grew up in the state and got his PhD from Lawrence, but all things being equal, urban schools and teams like Georgetown, Nova, Xavier, and St. John's are much more reflective of the country than the colleges of the Midwest or whatever region you want to ascribe to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. If anything, the city schools should be better positioned to enjoy national prominence. Most middle-class-and-up Americans find themselves in our nation's East Coast metropolises at least a few times in their lives (and, sure, throw in Chicago, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis too). Most people go to Lexington and Tucson never. Of course, all things are not equal. Winning is the differentiator. It is what separates Kansas basketball from, say, Iowa or Nebraska. Or UCLA from Cal-Berkeley. Or Duke from Northwestern. Or Syracuse from...I don't know... Baylor? National appeal isn't set in stone - just look at Big East of the 1980s. The 'solution' isn't particularly complicated: Just Win, Baby. The attention will follow.

Appreciate the enthusiasm, but you lost me on that one. There is a big country out there between I-5 and I-95, and teams like Georgetown, Villanova, Xavier, and St. John's aren't as relevant as you might think.

18 year old basketball prodigies dont care about metropolis all that much. They are going to go where they get as much pampering and love as possible for 1-2 years and where they are best positioned for a future career. It doesn't matter that it's not a major metropolitan area. I dont think NY, Chicago or DC really help all that much in our recruiting drive, save the fact that lots more people live and play in those cities, so it might be easier for us to draw from there.

And most of it is devoid of people. I say that as someone who grew up on the Gulf Coast, rather than the East or West. dilemmaxdotnet.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/u-s-population-density-map.jpgNot to say that there aren't a handful of other major population centers out there (DFW and Houston being the biggest), but even there, the concentration is in/around urban areas, which was my general point - there is no reason why urban schools should inherently have less national appeal than big land-grant schools located on 400 acres in the middle of nowhere.

I like the schedule. It has enough competitive games, enough decent but winnable games, and enough cupcakes. You need all three categories, and we have that.

I kind of like the schedule. Plenty of opportunities to beat good teams in good RPI places.
If GU plays well, this schedule is no hindrance to a positive post season seed.
If we stink, it won't much matter.

The only home Saturday games of any note are Butler (1/17), Depaul (2/21) and Seton Hall (3/7). So, yeah, Winter Basketball Weekend is going to be a real big draw again this year. Winter Basketball Weekend will be Jan. 17-19 (Butler and Nova; MLK weekend), per a class e-mail just received. (First I had heard those dates officially, not sure if it had been mentioned here yet or not...)

Never mind - Google has already done it. You just have to access their public calendar
