That's what they said. Told you that if we won one tourney game we would be in. But you mentioned that doomsday scenario of losing in the first round and jinxed us remember? Sure. That was it. I highly doubt that beating DePaul would have leapfrogged us over 4 teams to make the tourney. Like FL said, even Xavier barely made it. Even if they made it up, this entire conversation is different if we beat Depaul instead of getting embarrassed. At least we'd have been crossing our fingers for a bid, and then argued whether we did or did not deserve one. Alas, pretty much every rational fan knew there was absolutely no hope going in to selection sunday and instead we get to watch the other teams celebrate.

I absolutely believe that we were in with a win over DePaul. The impact of winning that game, plus getting a game against Creighton (win or lose), plus MSU winning the B10 tourney puts us in. It would have been close. Whether we were last four out officially or not. The NC State selection stinks for two reasons. First, F the ACC. Second, our resume was just as good as theirs. If it was SMU or Green Bay or something, fine.

I'm not going to lose sleep over it. We stunk and lost to DePaul. I suppose we might have officially been the 72nd team.

Boy, looking at Dayton's resume again it is really hard to believe they got in. Not a lot of meat on that bone.
Also Iowa is not being talked about as a surprise, but their RPI (63) is 10 spots lower than the next-worse at-large (NC State @ 53) and only 3 better than ours.

Why do you guys keep saying we were the first 4 out? They never said that. We were officially first 4 out. Confirmed The literal thing Greg Gumbel said was: "Some of the teams that were close, but not in the tournament" Soooooooo...again, stuff CBS made up.

If it was CBS just making it up, I take it as a compliment. Because it would almost be a "who are some big name teams our viewers will be surprised to know aren't in." We will get some sense of it from the NIT seeding. Different committee I know, but in this new format they do try to legitimately seed.

And a boosted SOS by playing creightob again. That would have gotten us in over Iowa at the very least. Once again all that negativity and pessimism about having to win or make it to the BET final or else after our huge Creighton won was unnecessary and turned out tone incorrect. At least let us enjoy your huge win against creighton at that time.

Yeah, it clearly has been a benefit to us to play the OOC we did. We stayed in the conversation a lot longer than any other 17-14 ever did. Just gotta make sure we take care if business else wise. Oh well.

And, by the way, what did turn out correct is that we lost to DePaul, this proving the point that we were not good. We will be back next year. We will be better. It is what it is.

I really thought we needed to make it to the semis or possibly finals of the bet. So I was a bit shocked to see that. We were prob the 4th out though if that list was credible.

Our RPI tumbled, I believe, after our loss to DePaul to 67. Weren't we in the high 50's before that.
I have counted six NCAA teams we have beaten this year - VCU, Kansas State, Providence, Creighton, Xavier, and Michigan State. Any others?

I would have thought that, but I thought the way the Selection Committee has been hammering home the "quality out of conference schedule", that GU's strength of schedule would've been an asset. Apparently it was. And then 6 top 50 wins isn't bad either. Sigh....

If we had beaten Villanova it would have been 45. If we had beaten Depaul and lost to Creighton it probably would have stayed around 51-55 which would have been enough with our SOS and quality wins.

We will be back next year. We will be better. It is what it is. Call me a realist, but I'll wait and see.

Lol why is everyone questioning the validity that we were one of the last four out? Dulls the pain a bit?
If we're a 1 seed in the NIT that will pretty much confirm no?

The team gets behind to an inferior team and can't get over the hump. The long scoring drought thrown in for the dejavu effect. The only difference the game is in the BET and on Fox Sports1 and not CBS. Also we will still be playing this week in the NIT, so the team has a chance to break the malaise and end the 2 game losing streak.
