Normally I'd be bummed. With what happened in Orlando last night...this is not a big deal.

Not surprising. I think the staff will have a difficult time landing top targets in 17, mainly due to our recent play and unease about potentially changing style. I do think we will have more success with the 18 class, as we will be kicking butt next season. Then it will pay off.

Just a continuation of our poor recruiting efforts. Given our coaching deficiencies, we need to recruit at a top 10 level to have the talent to overcome it. Instead, we can't even land fringe top-100 kids in our backyard.

Good choice by him and better for us he chose early. Now cast a wide net on some talented hardworking kids and get to work....

Other than the obvious that we didn't land the player what specifically do you feel the staff did wrong here in their pursuit of Lykes? The kid just chose a team that plays an up tempo style of offense. Hovered in and out of the top 10 last year. Went to the sweet sixteen. Has successfully used in recent years 2 "smallish" point guards - Shane Larkin and Angel Rodriguez, putting 1 in the NBA. Seems like a perfect fit for the kid rather than a lack of effort or poor job by the staff here.

I don't think anyone has forgotten that, I think you're just realizing now that your post was off base... so you've followed bball for ten years? Have I...yes. Do I think Lykes just looked at the last decade of basketball to make his decision...no. He sees 2 Sweet 16 runs in the last 4 seasons, a team that plays his tempo of ball, a team that put a smaller PG in the NBA in 2013 and successfully used another 1 last year, and he was sold. Again you're initial argument is that they are low mid major. If your definition of low mid major is 2 Sweet 16 appearances over the last 4 years and relative success in a conference over that same timeframe that is considered one of the best year in and year out then we simply have a different defintion. ....and I think its foolish that you think recruits these days are looking back at 30 years of college basketball history (or even 10) versus the last 4-5 years as a way to gauge success or best fit.

Agree with above. Smart decision by Lykes - one I would have made myself.
The talk that we need assistant coaches who know how to recruit is crazy to me. If we keep putting a sub-par product on the court, we won't be able to recruit anyone. We need assistant coaches and a head coach that can actually develop players when they are here, get them to the NBA and put a good product on the court. Kids will want to come if we do that.
We have a lot to offer - an amazing city, a program with a long history and good reputation, a degree that actually is worth something, and finally decent facilities. If we win, players will come.

Never had a lot of faith in landing this kid especially after had mentioned that he wanted to pursue a engineering degree. Its disheartening for sure but to be honest their just not a lot of great guards in this class to go around, we'll have to prove our worth with these kids by finding an overlooked mid major and build him up.

I'm glad he popped early we may be able to make up ground elsewhere.

And maybe like a lot of kids he simply wanted to get away from home for his college experience. Picked a strong team, great city and will be playing in the ACC on television every week. Hard to argue with his choice. From the Hoya's perspective, I am actually relieved. I was never convinced that he was going to unilaterally turn things around and I am still a proponent of bigger and taller guards, even if this kid was truly amazing.

As much as I wanted him here, I'm relieved as well. It didn't seem that he wanted to stay home. I thought Villy was in the lead. So he won't be playing for that conference rival. And he committed early so that we can recruit someone else. Like Yaboy said, find someone hardworking.
