Durning the in game discussion threads this year!
1. The quality of posts is way down from years past all you get is sarcastic nonsense!
2. There is no voice of reason to tell these posters that there being jack asses.
I don't even see the passion I used too at least there would be a board meltdown or two by now and in a perverse way it would at least show some emotion.
Does any one else see this? Where's the RDFs of the world? The ballas? Heck where's the mr sixers or bronxies for us to hate.

Passion stems from unfulfilled expectations. All we had this year was wild hope. Turns out we are what we thought (feared?) we are.

Before the season began the big question was "how would the Hoyas do without Porter?". Now we know. I know I'll hear it from everyone but after a game like this I really get angry at Porter. He really couldn't give us one more year? I know, I know, "would you turn down NBA millions? But GU took a relatively unheralded kid from Dogpatch and put him on a stage where he could shine. Plus, another year to polish his game might have gotten him some real NBA playing time this year. Need to vent after last night.

If this year's draft class wasn't so strong and last year's wasn't so weak I think he woulda come back.

This is the price of recruiting guys good enough to get drafted in the first 5-10 picks. While Otto has had a tough first year as a pro, it would have been a big mistake to pass up a year of making millions of dollars to return for his junior year. Even if he somehow would have still been the third pick in the 2014 draft (unlikely), he gives up that year of salary if he stays at Georgetown for his jr. year. There really is no circumstance where leaving after his soph year is a bad move for Otto, or for anyone who will be a high lottery pick. Look how things have worked out for Marcus Smart this year. He will still probably be a real high draft pick, but his college season has been beyond difficult, and he has a few million dollars in salary that he is not likely to ever recover.
We would all like to think that players gain something beyond money by spending time playing/studying in college, and there is certainly some truth to this perspective. But for players good enough to be chosen at the top of the draft, it is (and should be) all about getting to the NBA as a high draft choice as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, the board has really taken a turn for the worse this year. Just in terms of the volume of posts, it's already way down - and if you take into account quality, it's even worse.
I've been a loyal follower of hoyatalk for over 12 years, but I really only find value on the recruiting board nowadays. I think many of the fans have moved to places like Casual, or have dropped off conpletely because of the subpar season.

do not fault Porter. He made the correct decision for himself and his family. Had he stayed another year. he risked injury that might have spelled the end of his career or significantly diminished his abilities.

Not a lot to post about when the team is getting hammered. Hence, lack of in-game discussion.

Frazier nailed it. Also, the anger at Porter is misguided at best. Not to mention that, in terms of recruiting, Porter going when and where he did is likely more important than how the team is doing this year without him. Even if that's not the case, Otto earned what he got and our Hoyas were the beneficiaries of that last year. A "thank you" is probably more appropriate than a guy making the right decision for his future.

I'd say that this team does not play either winning or attractive basketball has a lot to do with the relative decline in board quality this year, both during games (where I comment on Casual) and before/after them (where I've stopped commenting anywhere).

Where's the RDFs of the world? The ballas? Heck where's the mr sixers or bronxies for us to hate. You're not enjoying the play-by-play posts in the game threads or the exact same posts by certain people in nearly every thread? Not loving the box score posts that everyone here already knows after having watched the games? Many of them are often told, though politely, that they're posting clutter and being annoying. They, however, either don't get it or don't agree or are simply undeterred. It's a frustrating year to say the least. Having said that, it stings less because expectations were lowered pretty early on with Whitt and Smith going down. Expectations have even been tempered for next year because of the uncertainty in the paint. That said, this group has shown a lot of heart and, really, they've done more of that than many of the recent iterations of Hoya squads. I don't like watching them not succeed/win but I do like the fight. Some posters were so down on the team from early on that they pretty much cashed it in early and, as such, the posting volume is lower. You can see that as either good or bad I suppose. I don't think anyone misses bronxhoya and we all know what happened with balla. As far as RDF, his posts were mostly informative and many were additive even if not positive in nature.

If we're talking about posters to hate, how do we leave out hifi? Without him, we are left with no idea of how this year's Georgetown team kinda sorta resembles the 1998 Gators' offensive line, and for that, we are all worse off.

People could add to the quality of posts here by focusing more on discussing basketball and spending less time bitching about and at other posters. Just a thought, and not sarcastic at all.
