While Coach Sgarlata my not be a "sexy" choice, I would ask who outside of the program would be attracted to this job? Maybe another 20 year career assistant coach with no realistic chance at any other head coaching job...
Coach Sgarlata truly wanted this job...he didn't settle for this job. We all know that recruiting to Georgetown is extraordinarily difficult, but it will be less difficult for someone who truly loves the place. When he is talking to a recruit and that young man is comparing the facilities to almost any other FCS school, Sgarlata will face the same problems that Kelly and Benson faced before him. But when he describes the amazing qualities of the entire University, it will be expressed with genuine affection and some of these recruits and their families will feel that. Sincerity is persuasive.
I would suggest that when the 2014 season begins, we should take a look around and look for former players in the stands. There haven't been many for several years, but they all love Sgarlata and will support him. Again, when recruits see those returning players they will be seeing them in a mediocre high school stadium. But a few (just a few) might be influenced by the support that will be coming from those alumni.
As long as Georgetown must compete without scholarships and without decent facilities, let them at least compete with someone in charge who will work tirelessly to improve the program without wondering what his next job will be. He is universally liked and respected by almost everyone who has come through the program while he's been there. There are good reasons for that.
Best of luck to Coach Sgarlata and whomever he chooses to be his DC.

Sgarlata will, at the very least, be able to point to concrete plans (and, assuming construction starts in a few months as scheduled, more than plans) for a significant improvement in athletic facilities. No, the football team won't be getting their own dedicated space inside the IAC, but they will have access to a brand new weight room and sports medicine facilities. In addition, booting 6 teams from the McDonough locker rooms, along with the basketball offices, should allow for at least a slight expansion of the football footprint within McDonough. An eventual (at least partial) renovation of McDonough facilities seems likely as well. Best of luck to Coach Sgarlata and whomever he chooses to be his DC. That DC would be one Luke Thompson, back on the Hilltop after a two-year stint up at West Point.

New Offensive Coordinator not announced yet, but job posting is no longer on site. Rumor has it that Coach Michael Neuberger (now at Cornell) has been brought back to the Hoyas as the new OC.
