If this is a repeat thread, please delete...
Did anyone catch it on CBS?
They gave 'Props' to Walt Williams for basically riding out the storm. I heard rumors that he was planning on transferring to Georgetown but decided to stay. Did anyone else hear this or did I create this in a vacuum?
I thought it was interesting that the Baltimore recruits decided that they weren't going to play for Maryland after the Bob Wade incident.
I wonder what prompted Keith Booth to sign...

I thought it was interesting that the Baltimore recruits decided that they weren't going to play for Maryland after the Bob Wade incident. I wonder what prompted Keith Booth to sign... Well, it wasn't just the firing of Bob Wade. Baltimore didn't like Maryland before Bob Wade got there. Bob Wade and Lefty Drisell had a falling out or something when Bob was the coach of Dunbar and had a lot of clout in Baltimore Basketball. Wade was a legend and had arguably the best high school team ever with Mugsy Bogues, Reggie Williams, and David Wingate. They were so good, that the late Reggie Lewis, former greate player for the Celtics, rode the bench on that team. Since Wade and Drisell had a falling out, Maryland lost its respect from Baltimore because of Wade's influence. Plus, a lot of Baltimore players favored G'town at the time, even though G'town was in D.C. Keith Booth went to Maryland because he wanted to go there, and Gary Williams had nothing to do with Wade situation. He had developed a great relationship with Gary from the start. And it has continued because now, Booth is an assistant coach for Gary and the Terps.

Back when MD went on probation there was talk on campus that not on WW, but also their other guard (can't remember his name) were thinking about transferring to GU.
Would have been sweet.

If this is a repeat thread, please delete... Did anyone catch it on CBS? Do you live in the DC area? If so I'm guessing CBS wasn't broadcasting this again. Rather its affiliate WACC, er, WUSA likely decided it was perfect time to celebrate the history of the Terrapin program.

I hate when coaches let personal agendas affect a decision that impacts what possibly could be a 'good fit' for the kid... I remember the "disagreement" between JTII and Sherman Douglas' coach at Spingarn... But hey...we got a pretty good guard in Charles Smith that same year so I'm not complaining too much about that one...

I always wondered what happened with that since Sherman Douglass was from D.C. and he went to the enemy, Syracuse.

Some of the 'Old-Heads' here could probably explain the "In's" and "Out's" of the situation better than me...I just remember seeing an interview on CBS with Sherman stating that he wanted to attend Georgetown and was upset/disappointed that the Hoyas didn't recruit him... In the same segment, they had Big John and he said that he wanted to recruit Sherman, but he backed-off due to the "riff" between he and Sherman's high school coach... And at the end of the interview, Sherman said that he understood why JTII backed-off and doesn't hold any ill-will toward him... But you have to remember, I haven't seen that interview since '89 so my recollection may be a bit fuzzy...

JT's successfully wooing Michael Graham led to the antagonism. I don't get it. Why would that make them mad? He signed one of their players who helped win a National Title for G'town? Could you elaborate?

Could you elaborate? speculation on my part... some coaches have "deals" with colleges and if JTII interfered with that, then that could have been enough to sour Spingarn's coach on Georgetown...

I know the Spingarn coach wanted Graham to go to another school (perhaps Maryland) and JT rode in kinda late and convinced him to sign with GU. Others following the story back then could do a better job explaining it all.

This is fascinating. I had never heard this, and am eager to read more if anyone has additional information.
