we can still make ncaa tourney if we get smith and trawick back with 4-5 games left until big east tourney.get them back and use last 4-5 games to get the rotation back playing together.we can win the big east tourney and get automatic bid. because until we get smith back we will keep loosing for the most part. I mean we can win some but just not enough scoring. get smith and trawick we are as good as anyone else in big east. and will be motivated to get to ncaas so the big east tourney will be the ticket in. go Hoyas.

I agree. We're not going anywhere this year so let's see if we can at least have a few "moral" victories. Beating Nova would count as one. I watched Mich State beat Indiana last night so I realize this is a stretch but it would be a good win for our conference. Finally, an upset win in the BET would be sweet. Also, watching guys like Hopkins and Cameron develop can be satisfying. The best part of watching Henry and Roy was realizing how far they came from their Freshman years.

Need to hope Izzo sits Payne like he did last night, which is a big reason IU was able to keep the score respectable. A good friend that is MSU fan said Izzo's been playing Payne in games he thinks he needs him, sitting him in games he thinks he can win without him - trying to keep him as fresh and healthy as possible prior to the NCAA Tournament.

Never say never but it looks highly unlikely. Starks and DSR will be near exhaustion by the time the BE tourney rolls around.
Others on this board may be right -- judging from the timing and length of Josh's absence, we're not talking about missing a few classes or failing to hand in a paper. It sounds like they are trying to save his eligibility, and there is no temporary fix for that. At this point I'm more worried about whether he will be here next year. Hope he can get it done.

We still have a path without winning the BET as well. But it requires a very fast turnaround.

We still have a path without winning the BET as well. But it requires a very fast turnaround. Agreed, this is possible, but only if we string together a nice streak of wins, which would require beating several good teams. After all, we are 3-4. To get to 10 wins, which might get us in, we would have to go 7-4. I realize that seems very unlikely given how we have played, but if Smith/Trawick come back and we can get lucky, it's certainly not impossible. We still have very winnable games left on the schedule, including games at DePaul, home against Butler and Providence, at St. John's, and at Seton hall. None of these are easy games given how we've been playing, but it's not impossible for us to win these. Let's say we won all five. Then to get to 10-8 we would need to win two of: @ Creighton, Villanova (home), Xavier (home), Marquette (away), Creighton (home), and at Villanova. Again, each of those games is hard, but it doesn't make it impossible. The MSU game is a freeroll. Losing it really doesn't hurt us at all, but winning would have huge upside.

With Josh and Jabril, there's no reason we can't win the BET. Top 3 teams would be Creighton, Villanova and Xavier. After that, not much to worry about. We are better than Xavier with Josh and Jabril. Nova is tough of course but not unstoppable. And Creighton will be playing at MSG in this tournament for the first time. And chances are we'd play 2 of them at max and hopefully just 1. Don't get me wrong. Not saying its probable but just that it isn't that ridiculous this year ((IF josh comes back of course).

This might upset some fans, but I actually hope we do not make the tournament this year.
Instead of barely making the tournament and bouncing out in the first round again, I believe it is better that we hit the rock bottom this year and then start going up again next year. If we make the tournament, the program would further justify itself and label this season as success, when there are still a lot of things to be addressed.
For short term, this season will be a wash, but for a long term, maybe the program can use this season as a turnaround and reform itself, and make some changes on some of the chronic issues.

The only way we make the NCAA tournament this year is if we get to play in the MAAC tournament to attempt to qualify. Having Josh and Jabril back would certainly help, but wouldn't make that much difference. Plus, my guess is that we'll see porcines take flight this year before we see Josh back on the court.

Jerrelle Benimon: 35 Mins., 2/4 FG, 6pts, 13rebs, 3 assts., 2stls, 2 blks., 2To's
Looks like he was not looking for his shot...but I would take all the other numbers in our front court
