For some reason I particularly noticed Saturday night the great instincts that DSR has for where missed shots are going to bounce. He anticipated at least 3 of them perfectly and was the first one to the ball. I think it is fair to say that none of us thought he would be the third highest rebounder on the squad, but he consistently grabs more boards than a guy his size should be able to get. Unfortunately it is not necessarily a skill that can be taught without at least some natural instinct, we could use a couple more guys like that.

Especially unfortunate because the guy who has the best instinct for it is also the guy who misses the least. Imagine if Bowen or Nate had the same ability? We'd be unstoppable. Though, I'm sure the two aren't unrelated.

He has strong hands. When he gets a hold of the ball, he generally comes down with it. Can't say that about some of our bigs.

I'd say the only ones who are underperforming rebounding wise are Jabril, Markel, Cameron and Joshua.

It was a tinge and cheek comment.

I'd say the only ones who are underperforming rebounding wise are Jabril, Markel, Cameron and Joshua. Thought Cameron had a couple key rebounds against Butler actually, although he did get knocked off his spot a couple times too which resulted in missed opportunities to finish a defensive stop. Those were good lessons in competing for the ball though.... He'll also get stronger.... Bowen's rebounding ability is one of the reasons I think he should be getting more PT. Also, his athleticism causes a lot of turnovers at the top of the arc and off inbounds which has led to some easy points off fast breaks. This is an aspect to our offensive we havent had in a while -- if ever -- that disrupts opponents on the perimeter and can get us a bucket during a drought. And not to forget the original topic, yes, DSR has a good nose for the ball and punches way above his height, when rebounding the ball. He's very good at tracking down some off those loose balls that trickle outside the paint after the original rebound hasnt been secured by either team.
