From what I remember he does not possess a lot of athletic talent but he does have some basketball skill--He reminds me of a poor man's version of Lonnie Baxter--if such thing exists.

Yeah, he's definitely got some skill, I think he was Penn State's best player, not that that's saying too much. Sucks for PSU, things just aren't looking very good over there.

If such a thing exists, that's terrible.... cause Lonnie was a Poor Man's SOMEBODY... just can't put my finger on it.

THE MAN WHO ATE STEPHON MARBURY!! sorry...inside joke. When he signed with the Wolves last year (?) he got the #3 jersey and he was the first Twolve to wear it after Marbury left, and well, he looks like he ate Marbury. And he always wears high socks...which I just don't get.

Is there a reason why we always seem to be looking for transfers on this board? They almost never work out and they have to sit out a year.
Other than occasional Jucos, there is absolutely no reason to accept a transfer except under circumstances outside of basketball (Fofana was going to stay in the DC area, for example). If they're just transferring for "playing time" we really don't have anything for them at this point and that's good. I am comfortable saying that anyone who couldn't get playing time elsewhere will not get playing time on this team in two years.

I agree with you on the lack of PT for players taht couldn't get it on other teams. This Penn St. kid wants to go to a winning program. He's arguably the best player they had and would provide some valuable big guy minutes. That being said, I have no idea if he's even being considered. On transfers themselves, I think that those players with reasons such as his (wanting to win) or personal issues (hate the school/hate the coach, want to stay in DC area) should be considered for the team if they can help out.

You don't want a guy for one year who would have to sit a year. This kid should go DII or somewhere he can play without the wait, NAIA??? Transferring with one year left is kind of stupid.

Does a transfer sitting out a year count against your scholarship limit? If it does, than this guy would be a bad pickup for most teams. There are certain situations where you would be willing to take him on though, such as the situation the Hoyas were in at the beginning of this year. We were in rebuilding mode, with an eye on being seriously competitive when Bowman and Ashanti were seniors and we had no big guys coming in and little depth in the frontcourt. So you sign this guy, knowing he'll be ready to step in and give you a solid, senior, frontcourt guy for the year you want to try and make a run. This year, of course, the Hoyas are in a different situation, so picking up a transfer wouldn't be a good idea, as we'll have an experienced frontcourt when he's eligible, allowing us to use freshman for depth and we have a scholarship crunch.

But I still think we need rebounding help. Watching Jeff get pushed around in the block by Cal St. doesn't bode all that well, IMO. But presumably he'll hit the weights. While we're talking about transfers, and since I couldn't reply to the PE Jr. thread (not sure why), have included a link that "confirms" the rumor. www.fortwayne.com/mld/journalgazette/sports/11266123.htm

A player does not count against your limit until he plays for you.

A player does not count against your limit until he plays for you. Unless he is getting a hoops scholarship. then he counts immediately.

Unless he is getting a hoops scholarship. then he counts immediately. 15.5.1.2.1 Football or Basketball, Varsity Competition. In football or basketball, a student-athlete who was recruited by the awarding institution and who receives institutional financial aid (as set forth in Bylaw 15.02.4.1) granted without regard in any degree to athletics ability does not have to be counted until the student-athlete engages in varsity intercollegiate competition (as opposed to freshman, B-team, subvarsity, intramural or club competition) in those sports. For this provision to be applicable, there shall be on file in the office of the athletics director certification by the faculty athletics representative, the admissions officer and the chair of the financial aid committee that the student’s admission and financial aid were granted without regard in any degree to athletics ability. (Revised: 1/16/93 effective 8/1/93, 1/11/94)" You're right. I misread what DFW had written. As for Hojo, as the PSU folk refer to him. He was a rebounding machine early in the season. Then he basically gave up and sucked.
