Am hoping the Hoyas bring their first half SJU game with them to the Dunk Wednesday.

Providence just got embarrassed at Nova. In theory there's two responses. They'll either rally and give us a really tough game or they'll be demoralized and roll over.
Providence only has 2 scholarship guards and 1 walk on back up. We need to continue to press all game. They have no true PG.
They're a great FT shooting team, but when guarded i.e. all other shots they're mediocre. They do a good job crashing the boards, so we need to box out.

Prov is a hot mess right now. Step on their throats and don't let them up. Just be smart with the ball and we win.

Need a win against PU to keep our early conference momentum going. The next three games on the road are important as we hit a tough block of 4 games after this road trip and the SH home game. Need to stifle Cotton as the defense did to Cleveland Melvin and D'Angelo Harrison. Cotton has a motor and won't give up as easiliy as SJU players did. Have to stay in front of him and not let gtown guards get into foul trouble on ticky tack hand checks. Let's go

I hate the Dunk. I'm not sure Ohio has ever missed a shot in that building.

This is a game the Hoyas should win. Providence is 10-5 and currently RPI #69. It wouldn't be a horrible loss, but with Providence essentially only playing 5-6 scholarship guys at this point, the Hoyas are visiting the Friars at the right time. This is one of the 3 or 4 conference road games they Hoyas should be favored to win. With tough road games against Butler (RPI 53) and Xavier (RPI 24) following this one, the Providence game becomes a very important one to pull off.
Also a couple other notes RPI-wise. First, the Hoyas are currently #45 in the RPI and have zero victories over top 50 RPI teams. Northeastern, with a W-L record of 3-11, is #193 in the RPI. Besides the Hoyas, Northeastern has beaten Milwaukee (RPI 121) and Central Connecticut (RPI 333). Seton Hall, which last week beat Providence at Providence, is RPI #124 (SH is the lowest ranked Big East team in the RPI). Villanova is RPI #4 which is absolutely huge for the conference.

Northeastern is so frustrating because they have 8 games they would have won if they had shot equal to their opponents FT% . They've given away 8 games at the FT line. So they could be 11-3 instead of 3-11. Only their losses to Vanderbilt and VCU were by double digits. They're a much better team than their record indicates. But unfortunately that doesn't really matter for the NCAA tournament.

Pomeroy has us as 1 point favorites; I imagine Vegas will be similar. We're 1 pt dogs at Butler and then substantial dogs at the Cintas Center.
This three game road trip will be a pretty good bellweather I think:
0-3 Headed to the NIT unless something changes 1-2 Expected; this is a true bubble team 2-1 On the good side of the bubble, Top 5 BE team and likely to make the tourney 3-0 Contend for the BE title
This Providence game is a big game. This is a 50/50 game that we have to win if we are actually better than the team lost to Northwestern and got destroyed by Kansas.

This game terrifies me for a few reasons. We just played our best game of the season and they played their worst. Regression to the mean usually happens in CBB game to game. Also with Cooleys house catching fire the Friars will be focused on winning for him. This really is a game we need and we are only favored by 2.5 so it seems like Vegas is trying to tell us something. I hope I am wrong with all this doom and gloom.

But unfortunately that doesn't really matter for the NCAA tournament. I was using ESPN's site as of yesterday. The same site updated today, Kansas State is up to 45, so we now have 1 top 50 win. VCU is 67, so pretty big discrepancy between ESPN and Warren Nolan for that team. And as of this morning, the Hoyas are down to 48. With Creighton's Gibbs getting hurt last night, it's likely the Bluejays will take a step back during the conference season. That's unfortunate for the conference, as Creighton is currently #29 in the RPI (ahead of "sexier" teams like Louisville (30), Duke (32), Memphis (33) to name a few).

Students are still going to be out on their semester break so perhaps the Dunk won't be a sell out after all.

Again, the play of the role players is critical tonight. Starks and DSR are known commodities and though their shooting can be inconsistent they always find ways to contribute. Smith cannot change this game by himself, but can be a major factor if the Friars cannot sit back and clog the middle. The play of Nate, Jabril, Bowen, Moses, Hopkins and perhaps Cameron will decide the fate of the team.

Would assume Providence will play a decent amount of zone tonight, in order to avoid foul trouble and limit the offensive advantages the Hoyas have when running man-to-man offense.
