According to the TV Guide I get in my Sunday Paper this upcoming Saturday, the EA Roundball Classic will be shown on ABC at 1:30pm EST. This is the All Star game that has been already played but features two names on Hoyas recruiting radar--Brandon Rush and DeAndre Thomas. just thought I'd give everyone a heads up. Fun to see what these players look like with our own eyes and how much they could help or if they could help the team.

I am kind of surpirsed to see that Rush is not in the McDonald's All-American game. Just putting that out there but it looks like DUKE/UNC got 3 players in it and OSU/WASH got 2 in it. All the players in the game have already decided where they are going to the high school. I believe the game is on ESPN on Wednesday at 8PM.

Rush is a fifth year senior. You can only be nominated for the game once. I assume Rush was nominated last year. Also, there has been some bias in the game against players who are wholly committed to the NBA before.
Neither Sapp nor Egerson were eligible, either, though neither would have made it anyway. It's strictly for Top 20 players off the guru's lists and Kansas/Duke/UNC commits.

I read an article yesterday where DeAndre Thomas' high school coach stated Kansas and G'Town seem to be the leaders at this point. I think this shows G'Town is serious about getting frontcourt size and adding some beef.

Not to mention Eric Boateng (Duke signee)... Apparently, Duke fans are already screaming Casey Sanders at this one.

SF, I dont know about bust, (the kid has got the range) but he certainly could with how nuts his father is. i believe he went to a new high school every year so he could showcase his talent. his dad also said he was going to go to the NBA in January and quickly changed his mind, saying that he is coming to kansas next year. I am more looking forward to watching Julian Wright than Micha next year.

Jersey,
Go to scouthoops.com if you do a prospect search on Deandre Thomas it's the latest article dated 3/27/05. However the info is a premium article meaning a membership is needed. Hope this helps!

Has anyone seen this kid play before. Because through my eyes, all I have seen from this board is that he is oversized (weight) but smaller in height. That does not sound good to me, but in a way sounds like May at UNC when he reached Chapel Hill. This kid is getting all of this publicity but is he really that good of a player that we would want here at the Hilltop?

Lots of criticism of him, but Illinois and Kansas are on him. I think its best summed up like this: if you think we should only recruit a guaranteed starter and star with this scholarship, he's may not be the guy. But if you think we need size and are willing to risk that he is never more than a role player with upside, he's suddenly important.

I wasn't originally thrilled about Thomas, particularly after reading the analysis by RDF's contacts. On the other hand, the Chicago Tribune article described him as an outstanding passer, and we know that's an attribute that is very important to III.
I'll be interested in seeing how this plays out.

If anyone has College Sports Television, the game is on at 7:30 tonight. From what I've heard and this includes who is still a possibility for GU to sign this Spring, I'd rather take the gamble on the other options and hold off on Thomas--6'6 overweight post players are not going to help as much as the other possibilities and if we have to wait until next year to add size, rather wait. Need the BEST PLAYERS--not guys who are projects. KU is seriously involved with GU--I read same update that was posted earlier in thread and it's on Phog.net, the KU site on Scout.Com. Kansas can afford to sign/risk taking him because they've got a lot of bigs, so his success isn't a risk with them. At GU, he'd be relied on to contribute and we've got some other options I'd hold off and take risk on rather than sign him.

RDF, what you write makes sense. But to play devil's advocate, it's hard to see how this kid could be characterized as a project making first team all state coming out of Chicago. He also sounds something like Sweetney, and we all know how that turned out. There's no question it's a gamble, because the kid might come in weighing 300 pounds. And it could also be that he was dominant only because he was able to push around smaller kids, without developing his skills. If it was my decision, I would probably pass on him, but I'm willing to give the staff the benefit of the doubt. Until they screw up.

Has Rush or Thomas scheduled a visit yet? If so, when will it be?

Craig Smith was also overweight. If kids get serious, they can make big changes and a 6'6 guy who can bang can be a big asset in college since all the tall guys are gone or are projects.
