Can't we just re-name this "The Nate Lubick Thread," or something similar to what we have for the other players' individual evaluations?
As tas pointed out, I think there has been some good discussion and good points have been made (positive and negative), but personally, I find the thread title pretty tacky and pretty troll-ish.

I don't think anything is wrong with Nate. What's wrong, clearly, have been our expectations or, more clearly, our evaluations of the kid. He's been asked to play a lot of different roles. To fill a lot of gaps based on the deficiencies of the team from year to year. He wasn't ever going to be a superstar but that kid has filled a lot of gaps for the teams he's been a part of. He's not going to light up the stat sheet. But he is going to help in the ways that he can. Scoring, clearly, isn't one of them. Though, to be honest, his form on the hooks are plenty good to do a bit more of that. From his side of things, how would you see it? We're thin at the five. Can you put on a bit of weight and try to play the 4 and the 5 at the expense of mobility? Sure coach. We're thin at the 4 but you might still have to play some five but be quicker on D... can you drop weight and try to fill those roles? Sure coach. Can you try to facilitate back cuts when the offense is stagnating? Sure coach. Can you be a decent inbounder because we suck at that? Sure coach. Can you provide a spark on the glass and on loose balls? Sure coach. Can you be a leader on the floor with your effort and your commitment to the system that we run? No problem coach. I'm not saying there aren't good points being made. I'm just not sure that his value is being fully realized and that, maybe, expectations were too high to begin with. I think he has more dunks than anyone on the squad in his time as a Hoya (Josh is leading this year) so that should say something too. In any case, Nate is a guy that is easy to cheer for and, while it's not eye-popping, he has improved. He does a lot of things that don't get much attention well. He also, like everyone who gives a crap about what they're doing, tries to do too much sometimes. Good. I like that quality. There are reasons he gets the minutes he gets and it's not just because there aren't more "talented" guys on the team. It's just so damn tantalizing to think what his game could look like if he had a reliable mid-range jumper. Personally, I'd like to see that more for Nate than for the team but, as others have mentioned, it would help the team tremendously. Anyway, I agree with some of what hoyasaxa2003 said and, intuitively, really do agree with most of what SFHoya said with regard to being a coach's son. Honestly, I find him only a slightly better version of Benimon 2.0. They both could not score and turned the ball a lot, but people described them as doing a lot of "intangibles" that are not shown on stat sheet. Nate is not better than the version of Benimon 2.0, I saw come to the Verizon Center last season...looking to score, hitting jumpers, and crashing the board.

And Nate could probably do the same at the CAA lecture where he was forced to be the go to guy and built confidence.

well i was talkin about benimon's tenure here not at his new school. i do hope nate comes around this season. he seems to be a nice kid and has represented our school pretty well off-court. we should still support him and hope that he will get it through

Great new title. Inspired me. What's right with Nate is he is a smart, experienced player who has the confidence of his coach.

A lot of things right with Lubick today… 10-7 and 4, and was aggressive from the opening tip.

Agreed, good game from Nate today. Impacted the game all around and didnt force many bad passes.

A curious trend that I've noticed from Nate: We can count him taking a shot around the hoop within the first 2 or 3 min of the game, usually a hook. He may even follow this up within a minute or two with another drive/shot. But then he stops shooting and isn't heard from offensively again, other than maybe a putback or two.
Its almost like pre-games he's told to look for his shot and does so right off the bat but then just regresses to be rebounding/passing Nate and forgets about offense for the bulk of the game.
Just seems like a curious pattern and I don't get why if he's supposed to shoot early that he doesn't keep shooting, at least a bit more.

Don't you think that Nate Lubick should have worn that mask for his entire hoya career? Nates strengths are his positive attitude and toughness right? Contrary to many broadcasters opinion its not because hes the son of a coach. I personally think the mask just adds to his tough, don't F with me attitude. Actually I think it kicks it up a notch, I mean the guy should put on one of those Hannibal Hector masks and just scare the chit of the opponents. With all the troubles were having and players being ruled academically ineligible we need an edge or an x factor. This just maybe it.

Nate Lubick can wear the Jason, Friday 13th Hockey mask on gameday..but if he cannot do any better with 28 mins of play than 4pts. 2rebs,...it is not going to make a difference with our opponents.

Why not just wear a football helmet and hockey pads? It's not like the NCAA rules prohibit anything like that absent documentation of medical necessity.
