Afraid a win over Kansas won't do too much to sway voters' opinions at this point. This seems silly to me. Maybe Kansas is not invincible, but beating Kansas AT Kansas would be a huge win for us, and it would certainly get us attention. Right now the 'hot sports take' is that Andrew Wiggins isn't living up to the hype, and that KU isn't that good, as they just lost to Colorado, and to Villanova, and almost to UTEP. If the Hoyas were to beat them, I of course would be impressed, but the spin on it would turn that Kansas is a disaster, not that G'town is great.

The hot sports take is that Wiggins has more upside than any player in the country and KU will continue to improve because he will. The Wiggins hype train is still rolling. I get what you're saying though. Clearly, if they lose games, it's a lesser win if we beat them (I'd be shocked if we did). But isn't that true of every game? No

Is Hopkins really 6'11'' now!? Mikael "6-11" Hopkins's growth spurt should propel us into the rankings.

It depends on how Kansas does in their next two games vs. Florida and New Mexico. Win both of those then our win against them will look very good. If they lose one of both, then yeah the story will be more about Kansas than about us.

No I agree with you - I think he does have more upside than everyone else, too. Media needs to make it look like he's in a free-fall so they can pump out more updated mock draft rankings, etc. KU is just really young and has played a crazy schedule so far.

I fall among those who consider being ranked a positive, any time of year, and frankly I thought we should have collected some votes this week - I mean UConn is still getting votes and they lost twice in TX last week.
But more to the point, I noticed that ESPN Inside has a column from Bilass ranking the top 64 teams in college hoops. Any insiders want to let the board know where we landed, if we landed and if not, where to send Jay nastymail?

35. Georgetown Hoyas (Previous ranking: 40)
The Hoyas were awful against Kansas, then trounced St. John's, looking like two different teams. D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera and Markel Starks were excellent against the Red Storm and will have to be the leaders of this team all season long.

Yeah, seems fair to me, too. Good news, too, is that KSU is ranked in one poll. At the very least, they look like a tourney team and a top 50 RPI team. Beating a team like that on a neutral court by 30 points will help a lot.

I missed our Kansas game, only saw the high(low)lights. But did see SDSU upset them - they reminded me a lot of hardworking, Butler type teams. SDSU is not as talented, but their frontcourt played really well, sharing the ball and doubling Embiid and forcing their guards to make plays and Wiggins shoot outside. They also blocked a lot of shots. Finally, they rebounded really well and didnt allow Kansas to get into transition and they themselves got easy buckets (before Embiid got back). All things we struggle with (our frontcourt just isnt as saavy/quick yet).
Kansas will get better (and their record will). At least we seemed to have moved on/learned from it. This next road game should be a good test.

35 seems about right for now. Curious to see how team reacts to success in the upcoming road game.
We have little margin for error as a general proposition so any slippage in commitment will be a big problem.

We have little margin for error as a general proposition so any slippage in commitment will be a big problem. I agree with all of this. I, too, am curious about any possible softening in effort. Our teams do seem to do that a bit and make games closer than they should at times. Maybe it's coincidental. Maybe it's just inconsistency so it seems like we have a bit of a letdown but it has happened often enough to make it seem like something other than that. In any case, gotta play both halves every game this year. No possessions off.

35 seems OK, but then again Bilass just put Benimon in his Best Seniors piece, so maybe he really is delusional.

Jerrelle Benimon has got talent. I do not understand all the put downs the guy gets. His game is much improved since he left.. he can drive, rebound, has an outside and can finish at the rim....with Benimon's current skill level he would be the Hoyas best player.

get off the board and get back to practice Jerelle.
improvement is one thing. saying JB is among the top 10 seniors in all of college ball? 'Nova held him to 11 & 6, OSU held him to 11 also, meaning the only real team he has been effective against his Kansas, a 30 pt blow out. Suggesting that he has the 'nads to compete at the highest level is beyond the pale. Saying he is better than Markel or DSR should be worth a board suspension

Fran Dunphy saying you could play in the NBA still doesn't make you among the top 10 Seniors in all of college ball, but nice try, especially not if he says it after you go off on his team for 30+ pts and he needs to make it seem like it wasn't a lapse from his D.
