Ranking does not bother me. We just need to keep getting better. I do think we have the potential to crack the top 25 by February after Josh drops another 25 lbs. I'd like to see that happen though, to be fair, it rarely does during the season. That said, I'm not sure 25 pounds for a person his size is all that noticeable. I'd love to see him get in better shape but mostly because it's ridiculous how agile and athletic he can be at times at his current size. Imagine if that kid ever got down to the 300 or below range? That would be something to see. In any case, I'm glad the focus isn't his weight but his development as a player which necessarily includes his conditioning. If he was just sucking weight, I don't think that helps Joshua or the team.

Tashoya,
I agree. the guy really has skills that you can see his weight is hampering him from utilizing right now. I would love to say it would be great if he loses 50-75 pounds, but for someone who struggles to lose weight myself, I know what a struggle it can be.
By the way how do you link my post to your response as you did above?

I think the main thing going on with our ranking is that voters are watching our games. We are not very good and haven't beaten anyone of note (VCU is looking shaky). A Kansas W or a great conference record will change this but we are maybe an 8/9 type seed at this point.

I just don't want the usual climb in the rankings where our fans over estimate the squad. Happens every year. And every year(outside of 2009) they pretty much live up to their ranking until Tournament time or injury hits. Being scared of rankings because of fan expectations just isn't logical. With the new Big East this of all years is a year it where rankings matter and being ranked is more important that actually be that good. When you are a top 10 squad and lose to Nowhere U in the first round I'd say that is not living up to your ranking.

I think the main thing going on with our ranking is that voters are watching our games. This is almost certainly not true. Other than the Oregon game, and possibly VCU, I doubt very many voters have seen the Hoyas at all.

It is early, and a long ways to go but, I would take any seed in march at this point.

Very funny post...your cynicism is coming all thru the message board. Thanks! It was meant just to be a funny post. It seems like we have a bit of a stretch between games and was going thru some hoya withdrawals haha.
Someone said I was a troll. Really? Whats up with that? Your welcome. Gotta take a good joke in stride.

Colorado is not ranked, but they have a better resume than Kentucky this point. I dont really look at polls that much as a reflection of the teams performance, although I would agree GU hasnt done much of note to merit much votes if any. Had we not lost against Northeastern we would be in a lot better shape with losses against good teams we werent necessarily supposed to beat. I think we need to do well within our conference - Big East has a middling RPI and we play Kanas Michigan St still so opportunities are there and SOS will be decent. A bunch of teams we played already will go far in their conferences.

Does that mean we should never be ranked? No.

But I'd say winning the Big East Regular season is in fact living up to your ranking. I think people need to get over the fact we are a bad NCAA tournament team and will probably never be a good one. Does that mean we should never be ranked? No. Ranking and seeds (especially seeds) are based on the regular season, not the post-season. I do think it's true that a team that makes a good and notable post-season run can impact their ranking at the beginning of the next season, and that likely has hurt us a bit at the start of the season. If bad post-season performance was used against us, we would have never gotten a 2 seed last year. The polls respond to wins and losses, and nothing more. There are so many games that the people who vote cannot possibly watch all or most of them. It's totally reasonable that Georgetown is unranked at the moment - we really only have one good win (VCU), and we have one bad loss (Northeastern). Many of the other wins are solid, but it's nothing that is going to get us attention. If we want to be ranked, we need marquee wins (Kansas or Michigan State), or we need to put together a 10+ game win streak or something similar. In the old Big East, you could knock off two top teams within a week and go from outside the top 25 to nearly in the top 10. We don't live in that Big East anymore (unfortunately).

Even then, not until that second win. All that matters is in March, as long as we are in the tournament I don't care where we are ranked.

Anyways It seems like a good back and forth evolved. I will try to be less trolly(??) in the future.

FWIW, Pomeroy has Georgetown at 25 & Sagarin has GU at 28, 24 on his Predictor rating.
The difference between #20 and #40 is only two points.
Pomeroy has GU 12th in the nation in defensive efficiency and 59th in offense; 2nd in nation in effective field goal percentage defense @ 39.4 but 324th at giving up ft attempts.
