Have fans noticed that he is putting together a possible Big East player of the year performance?? Yesterday, he not only led the team in points but also led the team in assists and rebounds with 7 and 8 respectively. He continues to shoot over 50% from beyond the 3 point line After a subpar performance against Oregon, he has been nothing short of amazing. I expected him to improve over last year, but never expected this. Also, I don't know if you have noticed, but his defense has improved as well.

Add to that, his handle is much improved. But let's not get carried away based on a few games.

I don't think you guys realized he transformed his body...meaning he's in the best shape of his life by far probably...

Was my sentiment not the same as the one trying to be conveyed by the op? And you can be sarcastic all you want but not everyone shares the same perspective and not everyone knows the impact (both mental and physical) of being in tip top shape as a high level athlete.

While I agree it's a little early to be talking BE POY, the kid is certainly playing his ass off right now. I said somewhere in some preseason discussion that he would make a run at Freeman's 17.6 ppg record in the JTIII era before his career is over. If he keeps up his play so far, it might even be this year. Kid is a very gifted scorer, especially since he is in noticeably better shape. Clearly he works hard and has that desire to be the best he can be. And he has definitely improved in other areas as noted above, most importantly his handle because he is going to be relied upon to do a lot of ball handling next year. Kudos to the kid for putting in the time in the offseason.

It's early and I'm not sure his 3-pt % is sustainable, and the level of competition has varied, and I'm not sure he's draw these kind of fouls against taller and more talented frontlines... but those very real caveats aside:
He's shooting incredibly well across the board. His FT % is back to where it was in high school and that bodes well for saying his 3pt % is more sustainable -- it's a better predictor than previous year 3pt %. He's not turning the ball over too much despite games against VCU and Oregon, and his assist rate has jumped with increased ball handling responsibilities.
If he could keep up this level of efficiency -- again, not likely -- but if he could, it'd be the best offensive season of the III era. Clearly.
He still sort of reminds me of a rich man's Scottie Reynolds (or to be nicer to Scottie -- senior Scottie Reynolds), but he's clearly better than Reynolds as a sophomore.

What's that number that adds the FG%, 3FG% and the FT% to show how good a player has been offensively? Freeman was very good at it. Well, DSR is at 191 right now (52% FG + 53% 3FG + 86% FT). The season is young and long, but what a great start!

I'd expect DSR's 3 point shooting to regress a bit, so that 191 will as well, but I think 180 is certainly in his wheelhouse.

Jon Wallace shot 58/45/79 = 182 as a senior
But Roy Hibbert was 60/100/65 = 225.

While interesting, this statistic (FG%, 3FG%, plus FT%) is really not very useful in evaluating how good a player has been because it does not account for shot distribution (i.e., how many of each shot they take). Hibbert is actually a great example of this. His statistic for his senior year is 225 based on two three point shots made. If he had missed them (very possible for a big man like him), it would be 125 instead, but he would not have been any less valuable.

I don't think Hibbert is eligible for that formula. But not sure...

If you want a stat that takes into account FG%, 3FG%, and FT%, look at True Shooting % (TS%).

Majerus came up with the 180 rule, and it wasn't meant for stat goons like some of you. It was meant simply to be an indicator of a great pure shooter. Stat goons give it a rest.
