I also have no doubt that JTIII got rid of Whittington for good and fair reasons. But to say he's gone because "he couldn't be bothered to try hard" when you can't know if that is true is just being mean for no good reason.
Say that he screwed up, wasted a great opportunity and disappointed a lot of people. But don't attribute things to him that you can't possibly know.

And also you can't act like he did nothing to earn his entry into GU....just because he has size doesn't mean he just walked on the court one day good enough to play at GU.

"So you claim to know everything about what went down with Whittington?" Nope, but I do have every confidence that the team are given all of the academic support they could need as long as they put in the effort. More than anything I have no doubt that if JTIII "dismissed" him from the team it was for a good reason. I don't wish him any harm, but I fail to see why I would wish him well anymore than I would wish any other random member of some random college team I don't care about well either. Whittington has earned no benefit of the doubt, to the contrary. JTIII on the other hand has in my estimation. He was dismissed from the team after being inelgible the year before this one. That is all I need to know inform my decision that it won't make me the least bit happy when he hangs a double double on Purdue in two years time. Maybe someone can explain to me the logic of "wishing him well" in the first place? I suspect we just like what it says about ourselves at no cost. Here's the logic of wishing him well. He didn't hurt you personally and didn't do anything so bad as to make even the student paper. Maybe he squandered an opportunity. Maybe he couldn't deal with the workload. Maybe he just wasn't happy. Maybe he just struggled adjusting to life at Georgetown. There are a ton of possibilities, some of which may be more likely than others in your mind. But, chances are, you're a person that went to Georgetown for academics and either got in for your prior academic record or because you're well connected/legacy. In either case, you had resources and preparation that most of the guys that play basketball likely didn't have to the same degree. Again, assuming that I'm right in that guess, you didn't have to devote a substantial amount of your time to playing ball and getting classwork done on a level that you may not have ever been exposed to. It's a huge task for a lot of people. Not a lot of basketball players. A lot of freshman and sophomores until they get up to speed and understand what is expected. Tutor all you want. It's a very different experience for most incoming freshman. Add to that playing ball and traveling and the new expectations in class and, honestly, I'm surprised more guys don't go down to academic ineligibility. I struggled personally very badly my first year and all I had to deal with were classes and a part time job. I was a very good student in HS and had many problems adjusting. I'm not saying you HAVE to wish Greg well. I'm only saying that if you're going to crap on the guy, at least be cognizant of all of the details of his departure. I'm guessing you're not remotely close to being informed about his situation. As such, why the animosity? I'm not happy we lost a talented ball player either. More to the point, I'm not happy that Georgetown couldn't get him the help he needed (if he wanted it) to be able to stay. If, however, he just wasn't happy and wanted to leave, so be it. Good luck in any case. He's a kid. If he made some mistakes, that's on him. He can't be overly happy that he's going to Rutgers for the basketball program.

Not directed at you Tas, but do we really need to explain the logic of wishing a kid well? A former Hoya? At Christmas time?

I suspect we just like what it says about ourselves at no cost. It's like saying prayers for someone. The only possible benefit is that it makes the person offering the prayer feel good about himself.
