K state looked pretty bad against what is likely to be a slightly better team in Charlotte then Northeastern. I still haven't watched our game and plan to put myself thru that DVR agony tonight. Gotta shake that one off and get a W against K state. From a branding standpoint it will sound good at year end even if they stink it up this year.

May be good we have a quick turnaround. The reality is we played a good half and a really bad half of basketball. The seniors need to step up.
Markel needs to be the leader. He played very well the first 2 games and stunk today. This team will not win when that happens. Lubick needs to avoid the turnovers and keep the defense honest. I think he should only get a handful more games to prove he can do it or lose minutes.

Play better (i.e. some) defense. Box out and rebound. Don't settle for threes. Hustle for 40 minutes. All of the things that your 7th grade coach pounded into your head from day 1. At least we won't be overconfident.

Putting the crap of the Northeastern game behind us for now, this is actually an interesting matchup of two major conference teams that did very well but got upset in the first round of the NCAA's last year, and are struggling so far this year.
Kansas State went 27-8, 14-4 in the Big 12 last year, good to be regular season co-champions with Kansas last year. They then lost to Kansas in the Big 12 championship game last year, and then got upset by LaSalle in the first round of the NCAA's.
They lost three seniors and two transfers from last year's team, but looks like they have a pretty good group of freshmen to take their place. They lost somewhat shockingly to Northern Colorado in their opener, then beat Oral Roberts and Long Beach State. They lost to Charlotte today, in their first game away from the friendly confines of the Little Apple.
Need this one bad.

The VCU loss gives us a chance to salvage something from this tourney. Getting out of PR with wins over K St and VCU would feel like a huge win at this point. Of course, after the debacle we witnessed today it also feels like a huge longshot.

Another positive is since we aren't ranked no one is talking about this loss. It is as if it didn't happen in the national media. Solid.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what we're going to do on offense. I agree with some others that Lubick is most likely not one of our five best players, but he's the only guy who's an above average passer for his position. Starks was a 3.5 A/40, 1.5 A/TO guy last year; he started off better this year, but I'm having a hard time seeing him doing substantially better than that without Porter. DSR's not a great passer. Smith has 39 assists in 1407 career minutes. Hopkins is really more of the type to look for his own shot and has the tendency to be a turnover machine. Cameron has 2 assists in 3 games and the scouting report on him coming in was not a great passer.
So basically we're running an offense predicated on passing with a bunch of guys who are below average passers. We have 37 assists and 42 turnovers through 3 games. The competition level isn't getting easier. The only time since III became coach that we finished with more assists than turnovers was 2008-09, which was a season I think most of us like to pretend didn't happen.

If we're losing games to Northeastern, I think we have quite a bit more to worry about than anything that may or may not happen in March.

We will learn something about the heart of this team today. Northeastern wanted the game more than we did down the stretch. I expect to see us diving on the floor (except for Joshua!) and fighting for rebounds (for a change). If I don't see that after yesterday's embarrassment, it is not a good sign for the next 3 1/2 months.

Just noticed that this is the K State team that has Brandon Bolden on the roster. (He's ineligible this year).
