I couldnt believe it when I saw this, but one of their assistant coaches has been suspended after being arrested for driving while under the influence. This is truly ridiculous, that program deserves a beat down from the NCAA. Here are some comments from the AD: "This is totally shocking to me, in view of the harm and hurt that has already been caused to individuals, our men's basketball program and this university," UC director of athletics Bob Goin stated about the incident. "Our image has taken yet another big hit by the careless action of someone, who given the events of the past year, should have been very much aware of the consequences. "The fact that we have recently had another major incident of this sort will mean that this will not necessarily be treated as a first-time offense," Goin added. www.ucbearcats.com/sports/mbball/release.asp?release_id=3412

I think that, of all the new teams, Cinncinnati will be the team I hate the most. They are not a college basketball program and have never been under Huggins. They're the embodiment of all the negative crap that is said about college basketball. The NCAA needs to step in and force them to stop running a farce of a program.

Shouldn't the school just hire a designated driver so these guys can drink and they don't have to worry about it? It would probably save them some cash.

If MADD and some of the other New Prohibitionists have their way, we'll all be arrested after taking a Claritin with a glass of water and then driving 3 days later, so I think I'll wait to hear more details before slamming the guy.

I love the concept of Cinncinnatti (sp) because it is nice to have absolutes and bad guys and such.
Do you think Thuggy Bear even bothers to recruit guys who may graduate? Or if he finds out that someone he is recruiting has a 1000 SAT and no criminal record he stops recruiting them as "not a good fit" for the program?

Let's not be so quick to cast stones. We've had our share of follies. Kenny Brunner? Ed Sheffey?
If it were a Georgetown issue, everybody here would say "let's all hope and pray for coach X and his family. That's what they need most right now."

The best part will be if the school decides to fire LaGree. What a great example of hypocritical behavior!
They are completely stuck this one. They get slammed either way (as well they should). Fire him and then everyone will ask why Huggy got a 2nd chance. Give him a second chance and the school has yet another black eye.
Can we still rescind an invitation to the Big East? I know our school and others aren't totally innocent, but isn't Cincy just a tad out of control. They are an embarressment to themselves and any conference they inhabit.

I'm not sure how or why the NCAA would get involved. It sounds like U of C is taking appropriate action.

I agree. This isn't really about anything the NCAA could or should do.
The program is just a joke in general and it's an internal matter.
Unless either of the guys are a convicted felon of some sort then they get pretty much free reign on this one.

Ahhh, the holier than thou Georgetown fan. There aren't as many of those as their used to be. I don't understand the Cincy obsession people have. Its not like they've ever won anything so as to merit all this hatred.

If it were a Georgetown issue, everybody here would say "let's all hope and pray for coach X and his family. That's what they need most right now." Yeah, except I can't remember our head coach and assistant coach both being arrested for DUIs or the subsequent "prayers." And I seem to remember something about Sheffey and Brunner... oh yeah they subsequently weren't Hoyas. Last I checked, Huggins is still there. So two coaches with DUIs + sanctions after an investigation in 1997 + Underwater with the NCAA academic progress rate = A shady guy who played half a season and commited an infamous act AFTER being a Hoya. Makes sense. Certainly "holier than thou" to say we're cleaner than Cincy. I thought Charles Manson was a bad guy, but looked at my "What Would Big Dog Do" bracelet and remembered that I had an outstanding parking ticket.

Some Citadel alums I know suggested this for Charlie Taafe when he was caught DUI when he was their football coach. Their loss was the Twerps' gain.

Its not like they've ever won anything so as to merit all this hatred. Ahh, the "everybody's exactly the same, Mother Teresa was Hitler with a less prominent moustache" fan. There do seem to be more of these lately, but that still doesn't make them anywhere close to right. You'll notice I didn't say we've never had any incidents, and I didn't say Cincy was the worst offender in the world. However, my comment about the two not being anywhere close to being equal is obvious to just about anybody but the most fanatical relativist. Matter of fact, I think I was the first person here to defend the coach originally in question. I would be interested to know how often Coach Huggins took recruits to classes, as Big John did, or how often he made them go to mandatory study hall, like our guys had to, though. You may think Thompson's deflated basketball was all PR, but I just don't buy it.

As a Cincinnati native, I feel I must make a few points here to clear some things up. Ahhh, the holier than thou Georgetown fan. There aren't as many of those as their used to be. I don't understand the Cincy obsession people have. Its not like they've ever won anything so as to merit all this hatred. There were those national championships back in the 60s, but I'm guessing those don't have people worked up. I think that, of all the new teams, Cinncinnati will be the team I hate the most. They are not a college basketball program and have never been under Huggins. They're the embodiment of all the negative crap that is said about college basketball. The NCAA needs to step in and force them to stop running a farce of a program. The city's name is spelled Cincinnati. Lets try that again slower, C I N C I N N A T I. It's a major city, we'll be playing them once a year, please learn how to spell it. Finally, regarding Huggins and staff, I know very little about the latest incident, but it's not shocking. The university did basically nothing to Huggins, so it's not shocking to see a repeat. You can bash UC all you want, they are just the latest in a line of thug teams that will always exist in some form. Before them it was UNLV, and when (if?) they clean up their act I'm quite certain somebody will take their place. Frankly, in Cincinnati I think the program merely exists to fulfill the evil role to the good guy played by the Jesuits over at Xavier. If we could find a way to make the average non-affiliated college baskeball fan in DC (locally anyway) think that Maryland was the dirtiest program on earth, and we suddenly started a yearly series with them, I think it would add more Georgetown fans than possibly any move short of quadrupling enrollment.

The word is TYPO HoyaGSB99, T Y P O, you'll be seeing it a lot on this board (have you read lic's post's?) so you'll have to learn to ignore them. Honestly, cut me some slack, like you (I'm assuming you're from Cincinnati) I'm from the Midwest (spell the biggest city in Minnesota), I understand your assumption that it was East Coast Bias and I know how to spell Cincinnati. I put an extra N in there once, it happens. Cool out.

You're right GSB, people shouldn't butcher the spelling of Cincinnati. It is the third largest city in Kentucky!
