Great game on tv now. Its at 14:24 to go in the second half, and we aren't quite to the point where I couldn't bear to watch it with other people anymore.

What a weekend that was! Talent wins titles, and that team was LOADED. Wallace, Sapp, Summers, Green, Hibbert, Ewing, Macklin, Crawford, Rivers (yes his jumper was comical but he could play d).

What a year! I can't get over how fast and fluid the offense was. And our defense was unreal. Coincidentally, I think this may have been the last season that team rebounding wasn't a cause for collective apoplexy on the part of Georgetown fans everywhere. Probably due to the high self-internal jealousy factor.

It's amazing how good that team was without:
Going ten deep Pressing Having a "true" point guard Being guard focused
I mean, how the hell did they manage. Everyone in this board knows the above is numbers 1-4 of how to build a winning team!

That and our defense was incredible.

Everyone in this board knows the above is numbers 1-4 of how to build a winning team! I know you're being sarcastic, but I would like to point out that that team had 9 players who played 29+ games. It was 10 before the Egg-man left early. I don't consider the other 3 as essentials to success. Balance in all positions (including bench depth) is the key to success. You cannot be successful if you have to play 4-vs-5 ball.

You are right, I was joking. Kind of.
But one, that team was an eight man rotation by the tournament. Egerson was gone and Crawford was barely playing at this point; he accumulated most of his real minutes early on.
Offensively, that team played 4 on 5 constantly, and possibly even 3 on 5, as the bench was the star-studded scoring trio of Ewing, Jr, Vernon Macklin and Jeremiah Rivers.
Winning teams have things in common. They are talented -- that team had four NBA frontcourt players and a fifth who came oh so close. They play team ball in a style that accentuates their strengths and hide their weaknesses.
That team could run when it wanted, but it wasn't a fast break team. It wasn't deep. It had two shooting guards, neither of whom could break a guy down off the dribble reliably.
There's lots of ways to win.
And I think anyone who thinks the '13-14 Hoyas are deep or particularly suited to running is kind of crazy.

The best approach is using November and December to define your 8-man rotation for the tournament. Those three were supporting players who had their roles. The ten players don't need to be scorers, but they cannot look lost. The balance worked well for JT3. I agree on your last observation: this is not a running team.

It was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the fact that he never really got any better when it looked like he could be a future star after his freshman year.
