This has been the most enjoyable season for me and Hoya basketball since the glory years of the 1980s. And, the reason for that is, in no small way, because of this board.
Many, many thanks to those who created and operated this board for the opportunity to interact with others as committed to Hoya basketball as I think I am.
And, an equal amount of thanks to all those who post on the board, even those who have disagreed with me over the course of months. Each of you, in your own way, has made this year one to remember.
I found this board a little over a year ago when all the talk was of recruits and of the coaching situation. I eagerly learned who we were recruiting and followed the progress (or lack of success) in the pursuit of this and that recruit. I also followed the preview and the actuality of a new coach being hired and benefited from the reactions of so many who posted as to what the effect might be. I witnessed the many and varied opinions of our former coach and of the process of selecting the new one.
From there I got the benefit of observations of those who attended games in the Kenner League and started to gain some enthusiasm for our incoming freshmen.
Then followed the season and the ups and downs and how opinions on various players varied widely - but each offering his or her perspective. I gloried in the wins at Pitt and Villanova and the fantastic finish against ND and then went down into the pits when our end of season losing streak lingered. And, I received encouragement and discouragement from those posting on the board following those losses.
Then, the light started to return with a win in the Big East tournament and a couple of wins in the NIT. And, all the while, all of you who posted made it all the more enjoyable.
Now we are starting to look at next year - who will return, who will not, who will be recruited, who will actually sign, what each player will be asked to do in the offseason, what moves the coaches will make, what impact the new freshmen will make, the next Kenner league, etc. - and, we will all have the benefit of a large group of committed Hoyas chipping in with their observations.
So, I want to thank all those who organized and ran this board over the last months; and, also a huge Thank You to all those contributing to this exchange of information and views.
Thanks to all.
