Markel Starks is going to have a HUGE year. Starks is reminding me a lot of Derek Fisher in his prime. I think that is a good thing. He looks like a solid point guard with all the extra skills.

Ryan Williams, Reggie's son, gets announced as "Georgetown". Walk-on or last scholarship? Please explain. How old is he? Where does he play? Reggie Williams played at Archbishop Carroll for his father 2 years ago. I'm pretty sure he was Carroll's leading scorer as a SR. I thought he went to prep school for a year to improve his stock among colleges because it looked like he was good enough to play college ball at a mid-major or low-major level at that time. Had no idea he was a student at Georgetown last year. I saw him coming out of the 'VIP Locker Room'(the locker room that only Georgetown players come out of when they are about to play in Kenner League games) with a couple players after his game was over. That probably indicates that he'll be suiting up for Georgetown this year. He plays just like his pops, good shooter and slasher!!

Caught the Clyde's and Tombs games yesterday. Observations: Hayes has potential. Relied on the short baby hook with good results against Gilchrist and the hefty guy from Duquesne. Had a harder time on defense; needs to work on his footwork. Rebounding needs help as his positioning needs to be more aggressive. Adding time on the weights will help but much improved over last year's Kenner.
Domingo's stroke was impressive but his defense was lacking. It's a summer league game but he needs to use it to prepare for the Fall by improving his quickness on defense.Bowen blew by him at least three times. Bowen, btw, had great quickness and handled the ball very well and had a good all around game. As mentioned in Gaell's post, he had to leave the court for a while but returned late.
Ryan Williams has quickness and is slightly built. Handled the ball well and passed to set up others. Had an effective jumper. Was playing a guard.
Cameron: oh my. Was hitting from very deep; NBA threes. Not afraid to mix it up under the bucket. This young player will contribute if the game I saw is indicative.
Josh Smith: No one was going to stop him from backing down. He can move around the bucket nicely on offense and literally eats space on defense. If he could shed 30 pounds, he he would really be special. HIs stamina is an issue and it effects his effort on defensive rebounding etc. But, pure potential that is realized in short sequences today. ,

Nothing wrong, just watching the British Open! Here are some notes from saturday.
MOSES: (19 pts, 11 boards, 1 asst., 1 st, 1 TO) Moses looked real good on offense. He attacked the basket out of the post with a few one dribble power moves, and generally finished inside at every opportunity. Oddly, he sat for the last 6 minutes of the game, and for a good chunk of the first half. Today was easily the best offensive game I have seen him play this summer (I may have missed one of his games). Defensively, he lost his many a few times - once his man outran him down court, once or twice he got caught ball watching a bit.
HAYES: (10 pts, 8 boards, 1 asst, 2 Bl, 2 TO) Clydes was definitely looking to set him up in the post often. He was 5/16 from the field. Almost all pretty good shots out of the post, he just missed most of them. He also missed the one jump shot he tried. His jumper is a real line drive, almost no arc. He does a decent job contesting shots inside, but still struggles to move his feet real well.
DOMINGO: (9 pts, 2 boards, 1 asst, 1 st, 1 bl) Did not take a 2 point shot all game. Seemed a lot less aggressive, perhaps because he was seeing less of the ball with Jeff and wallace on the court, and a concerted team effort to get hayes the ball in the post.
BOWEN: (7 pts, 3 boards, 2 assists, 3 TOs) As others have pointed out, he blew buy Domingo twice for nice driving hoops. Bowen is definitely a more explosive athlete than most other hoyas. He not only jumps well, he is also extremely fast running the court. If he ever puts together the skill and decision making elements, he will be a real good player. But time is kind of running out!
ALLEN: (6 pts, 1 bl) His block was pretty spectacular! He loves to fire up the three, but only got one of 5 to drop
SMITH: (10 pts, 6 boards, 2 assts. , 5 TOs) A quieter game from josh, but he still looked pretty good. he missed a few inside shots, but was again able to get off a good post shot on almost every opportunity. He turned the ball over a bit - but fewer of the turnovers came on getting stripped when he dribbled the ball in the post. Instead, he threw a few interior passes that did not work out. But on the whole, his passing was good today. He was making quicker decisions, and they were generally good decisions - firing the ball to cutters or kicking out to open shooters. A couple of the passes were a little low/hard and the cutter could not handle them. I know this is not likely - but it looked to me and another fan I was sitting with that Josh might have been a little slimmer this week than he had been so far this summer. Can you lose enough weight in one week for it to be noticeable? That might just be wishful thinking, but when someone else had the same impression, I figured maybe Josh did drop a few pounds this week! Even though he did not put up real big numbers, Josh continued to play better each weekend. He was moving a bit better, making quicker decisions, getting a rebound or two where he had to move out of area to haul it in, and just generally looked more comfortable on the court.
DSR: (10 pts, 3 boards, 2 assts, 2 st, 2 TOs) I thought he really struggled offensively today. He was 0-8 from 3, and seemed to be settling for fairly early shot clock jump shots regularly. You can see he is a bit frustrated with his outside shooting. He was not attacking the lane much at all. I would guess he is trying to play with a point guard mentality, which is good. But he needs to get some "penetrate and dish" going. He is not penetrating much at all. Despite his shooting struggles, he continues to play a solid all around floor game. He had a few nice anticipating steals, cutting into the passing lane to start transition opportunities.
CAMERON: (14pts, 2 boards) He hit 2-4 threes, and had a real nice pump fake/pull up jumper basket. Good to see him have no turnovers. I think Reggie is going to be primarily a shooter for this year - as long as he can minimize mistakes, knock down open 3's, and work hard on defense, he can be a real useful player this year. , he can then add more elements to his game over time. I think the fundamental basketball IQ is there, it is just a matter of strength and experience. He'll never be a top level athlete, but he is definitely quite a bit thinner than he looked to be in high school - so he is doing the work to get in shape, to maximize the athleticism he does have
LUBICK: (10 pts, 9 boards, 3 assts) Very solid game from Nate. His defensive rebounding has been solid this summer, and we will really need this from him. Otto was a very good defensive rebounder, and nobody we play at the 3 will be anywhere near as good a rebounder as Otto. Hopefully we'll get a little more rebounding from our centers than hopkins/moses gave us last year, but there is no guarantee of that. nate's rebounding will be critical. In terms of shooting - missed a 3, missed a foul shot. I don't think we should hold out too much hope that nate's outside shooting is going to improve dramatically. He probably will always have that somewhat awkward jump shot. If he can get up to 70% from the line, and occasionally hit the wide open foul line/short corner jumper - that is about the best we can hope for. I don't think he is ever going to get a lot of defensive respect for the jumper.
TRAWICK: (14 points, 7 boards, 3 assts, 3 TOs) Jabril has played really well this summer. Probably our most consistent game to game player. He always attacks the basket well, plays solid D. He also passes the ball well in transition. He doesn't do anything fancy, just pushes the ball until a defender commits, than makes the direct pass to the wing man for an easy basket.
HOPKINS: (8 points, 5 boards, 1 asst, 2 TOs) Solid game from Hopkins. Had one great dunk finishing in transition. Does a good job drawing fouls inside - was 4/6 from the line.
STARKS: (16 points, 6 boards, 4 assts, 1 st, 2 TO) In most games this summer, he has not looked to shoot much early in the game, but then forced the issue more as the game went on. All aspects of his game look solid. He seems set up for a very strong senior year. He came down funny on his ankle on a late game drive. i was impressed that he nailed both foul shots (in a tight game) before leaving the game, while obviously in some pain.
Note on the Takeover-DCX game: Oladipo played for Takeover. He played point guard, as he did in the NBA Orlando games a few weeks ago. he threw a number of really nice pick and roll bounce passes to the rolling player. On the final possessions - Takeover was up 2, running the shot clock down. Oladipo hit a sweet step back 18 footer as the shot clock ran out to lock up the game.
I will not be at the games on sunday, so no more reports this weekend!

vv83, deep thanks (as always).
I'm not going to be able to fill-in for stats as I did on Friday as missing half of first and last games today and have my son with me. Likely to have observations.
Friday I didn't see the other usual suspects for stats usual numbers in the stands so improvised after years away from doing it (not a scratch of paper with me).

As usual, thanks guys for the breakdown on the games this weekend. Yes, you have spoiled us, but we do understand that you have your lives to live also and can't always bring us great reporting. Which, of course makes the times when you can be there and give us something to sink our teeth into even the more appreciated. Thanks. And enjoy your four-days vacation!

Others: Also nice to see was Mo Sutton (Villanova) fresh from last night's Wizard's Summer League game in Las Vegas playing the Kenner's first game today. Mo never got off the bench in the Wizard's first game. Got some run when Otto sat with his hamstring problem (which kept him out of the last 2.7 games).

No biggie but I think it’s spelled Riyan….

Found this on-line:
Riyan Williams Georgetown University “I would first like to thank the NBRPA for selecting me as a recipient of the Dave DeBusschere Scholarship. These funds will definitely help me continue to strive for my dream career, Corporate/Entertainment Attorney. I plan to use these funds to pay required university fees; to purchase books for courses; and to purchase items needed for my dormitory and campus living. If I anything is left over, I will use that to supplement my meal plan because I am sure I will be hungry during those All-Night Study Sessions.”
This suggests that the young man is not on a basketball scholarship but could be a walk-on if he can win a spot on the team.
