I cannot remember a player who faced more challenges, injuries and misfortune in his years at GU. But Ross always remained a positive influence on the team. I wish he had an opportunity along the way to really demonstrate how much he could contribute on the court. But he did have the chance to show us what it means to persevere despite misfortune - and what it means to be a HOYA. And he is getting his degree.
Thanks Ramell. Best of luck in whatever you pursue next!

I hope everyone feels this way. Injuries and outside events always happen but to continue on and fight the good fight is the key. I think the seniors on this squad deserve a lot of credit for the turnaround.

I am so proud of Ramell, and so proud to be a Hoya after this roller-coaster season. The Hoyas exceeded my expectations by multitudes, and all of the components to the Hoya machine played a huge role.
I am proud of Ramell for sticking with it through injury and setback. You are a great Hoya and will be remembered.
I am proud of DJ for stepping up his game when the Hoyas needed him most.
I am proud of BB for "sticking with the program." Although BB is at his best (and worst) when he freelances, he totally bought into the JT III system without complaint, at the possible sacrafice of his individual numbers.
I am proud of Ashanti for being man enough, make or miss, to take the big shot.
I am proud of Jeff Green for his total commitment to effort.
I am proud of Jonathan Wallace for not backing down to anyone. We know you will develop.
I am proud of Ray Reed for his tenacity of defense and his rebounding attitude.
I am proud of Crawford's nose for the ball.
I am proud of Roy's enthusiasm and freshman contributions.
I am proud of the remainder of the bench for staying ready, academically and physically, and for challenging the major contributors in practice.
And staff (III, Brodeus, Johnson and Burke) -- thank you for giving Hoya basketball an identity, stability and relevance.

Great postmortem, angus. I'm just glad we have an offseason where we're discussing who will come in rather than who will transfer.

The only time I ever brought a sign to the student section at the MCI Center was during my freshman year when we played Villanova. This was the work of my friend Jon and I (aren't all of these stories I tell?). Anyways, the game was on ESPN and so whatever we had on one side was a transparent attempt to get on television (didn't work).
But the other side, one of them was "PUT RAMELL IN" and the other was "PUT OMARI IN". I had this idea about adopting the "other" freshmen on the basketball team, since there was no shortage of love for Mike Sweetney and to a slightly lesser extent Gerald Riley.
I think if you go up to the 6th floor of Village C West, you can still smell the traces of the packing marker I used to make the sign--we're talking open the windows, air out the entire floor, people on the bus and in the section complaining about my sign kind of strong marker.
There was legitimately a 5 minute discussion over which of us would get the Ramell and which the Omari sign. Well, I ended up with Omari. Which is cool, because I can't think of a bigger Ramell Ross fan I ever met than my friend Jon. Any time Ross scored it was like he'd died and gone to heaven. He came to the St. John's game this year and Ramell had a pretty good game that night, which I thought was great.
I'd always said that I could stay in the student section as long as Ramell Ross was still on the team. I'm going to miss the kid. Not as much as Jon will though.
The postscript to this story is that during the game, Jon put the sign down on the ground in front of us, and it mysteriously "disappeared" into the crack between the stairs, never to be seen again. Was also the game I did the stupidest thing I've ever done as a GU fan--making the slashing gesture at the Nova section behind the bench when we went up by a comfortable margin over midway through the 2nd half. We lost. I've always thought of that game as a curse that was never exorcised from my student fandom, unlike the 4OT Notre Dame that no longer actually occurred as far as I'm concerned.
