1) Most 15 foot jumpers are not truly open. Yes if you catch it at 15 feet with no one near you that's a pretty decent shot, but that's not the reality of playing against decent competition. Guys are flying at you to challenge. It's a tough shot most of the time. Very few players are 50 percent or above shooters from the midrange. Maybe White can. We'll see. But watch our offense sometime on the rare occassions we have only Markel or DSR on the floor and watch how teams sag off of Bowen and Trawick. There's just no room to do anything when you don't have to respect anyone's outside shot. 2) White is in HS. Let's wait until he gets to college to decide how much better he is at all these things than Cameron. Cameron has plenty of room to improve as well, but there are flashes to go along with the fact that he can really shoot it. He needs to get better at everything, but so does White. The better guy can play. Hell, maybe White will show 3 point range too and my concerns will be moot. Still not sure I agree Hoya3.. If Jabril and or Bowen had mid range games the floor would open up so much more for the squad.. Especially in Jabril's case, he drives pretty well now with his man playing him to drive.. DSR's mid range game is lethal and it helps him to draw fouls too. I get that we should be cautious in praising incoming players but I've seen White play live 5 times this year and he's only had one subpar game against Mater Dei. Even in that one he had 13 pts. I've watched him guard Mudiay in one game and Cliff Alexander in another.. He's rebounded & passed well in every game. I watched him bring his squad back from double digits against a good Oak Hill team that has Multiple high major players on it while Okafor was out with foul trouble.. The kid can play.. IMO he's better than Cameron right now..

Yes, he's in HS but he's also playing against other high major recruits, not some slackdicks from the local regional HS. As you mentioned he's effectively guarded the top PG recruit in the nation and the top PF recruit in the nation. Reggie can't effectively guard, well, anyone. I am confident saying he is a better basketball player than Reggie right now. That's not to say Reggie won't have an important role, because he will. He's just not as good as PW.

Are we even arguing over the whole midrange thing? Look, a midrange game is a rare weapon in today's basketball. Anyone who possesses it and has skill and height to boot has a chance to be deadly at ANY level. Three-point shooters on the other hand, are a dime a dozen.

One needs to look no farther than Otto last year or CJ Fair this year to see the benefits of a mid-range game to the individual player and the entire team on offense.

Looking at the video clips of WY vs Currie....those baskets made by Paul have me shaking my head. The difficulty level of those shots are off-the-charts and yet he makes it look so smooth and easy. And he did so even though he was gimpy and playing hurt. Scary how good this kid can be once he adds strength to his body.

I think Ike is the most ready to contribute and put him at the three. We need a slasher with a mid-range game to keep defenses honest.

It is just great to know that White will be able to guard the 4 if Mikael gets in foul trouble. Even if he cannot contribute right away on the offensive end his defensive game definitely could.

Uploaded on Jul 24, 2011 Paul White (6'8 SF Whitney Young HS Class of 2014) plays Point Guard at 2011 Riverside-Brookfield Shootout in June 2011 just outside Chicago. Paul White is a top 15 player nationally (Class of 2014). Young HS won the Bronze Division. They played without Tommy Hamilton Jr. and recently departed Derrick Randolph (transferred).

The more I see, the more he reminds me of Kyle Anderson.

Somebody in the know snitched. You don't wait until the city championship game to reveal something like that. If they have been ineligible all season, that fact should have surfaced before now. Devastating for the kids.

More devastating to the kids is allowing them to play with under a 2.0. What is that teaching them?
I hear you someone snitched and it should have come to light earlier but man, if they can't come up with a 2.0 they definitely shouldn't be allowed to play. It wasn't one player it was 7 of them! They knew they were under investigation before tip off and they still were allowed to play.

After watching Paul White several times this year, I am very impressed with his talent. Too many times, we hear talent just refer to athleticism, but Paul White has immense talent in mid-range shooting (it's almost video game-like in terms of how pure his shot looks) and shot creation (being able to create a shot via a pump-fake, fadeaway or drive). He doesn't seem to be as comfortable with 3-point shooting, but I'd think he'll be able to extend his range during his college career.
He also seems to have great rebounding instincts, and he can track where rebounds will land more quickly than the average rebounder (which led to higher o-reb and d-reb percentages is EYBL). In fact, I see a lot of similarities overall with DSR, except much taller and better prospects for the next level.

Dressed but DNP in last night's playoff win. Curie, down three players, lost, so there will be no rematch in the sectional championship.
