Its bad enough that the DC CBS affiliate has to show every NCAA game that involves any ACC team in its entirety. But now they are showing us #1 seed Illinois vs a #12 seed instead of Washington vs Louisville which SHOULD be a more even matchup. Give me a break.

you're a fool. This Illinois-UWM game has been incredible so far. If it gets out of hand, they'll switch to the other game.

Outside the opening five minutes the game wasn't terribly exciting or much in doubt. Now both games weren't excatly close I'll admit. But in that case I'd go with the game that displays the most talent. Louisville and Washington combined had far more talent on the floor than the other game.

By the way, this is normally not the local affiliate's call, blame CBS not WUSA.

Illinois/WM start > Washington/'ville start. And they did switch when it got out of hand (to an equally sucky game). .....And please, quit crying, you're worse than Jimmy Boheim.

I don't know. I doubt CBS told WUSA to show every game that involved ACC teams in their entirety the first weekend when all the other games were being routinely cut into and switched. What games are shown where nationally is determined in advance in NYC. Any in game switches are also controlled from NYC. [EDIT: To clarify, sometimes CBS lets the affiliates pick between the games if there is a local tie to the region -- for example I believe that because tonight's NC State and Duke games are at the same time, CBS is leaving the decision of which game area affiliates will go with up to them. But 9 times out of 10 the local affiliate has no choice, so this probably was not WUSA's call].

There are no unwritten rules about high seeds, MCI. Have you never watched the tournament before? The Illinois-UWM game had the more compelling storyline all week. Its absolutely no surprise that that game was the choice in most places. Besides that, the library-like atmosphere at the Pit for most of the first half didn't help viewers like you and I feel the intensity.
Stop being such a seed-whore. You'll get to see plenty of your top seeds the rest of the way.

You'll get to see plenty of your top seeds the rest of the way. But I love being a seed whore. Big Dog, I've been taping this tourney since 1989. I've seen more than enough games to realize that when the local affiliate doesn't have to worry about a local (or somewhat local ) team, the games that are shown are the ones with the most national interest which tends to generate ratings. Those games are typically the ones with seeds that are closely matched because the presumption is that that equals a closer game. When those two seeds also happen to be very high and when they happen to have played some of the best hoops the first weekend of the tourney, its pratically a no-brainer to want to show that game when the two meet. Its very rare for an affiliate to show a #1 seed vs #12 seed game unless one of those schools is from the region of that afiliate. The so-called "story" between the coach of that mid major from Wisconsin and his ratting out Illinois years ago doesn't mean a darn thing for the majority of the viewers. It only meant something to the journalists who are desperate for an angle when covering a game. This was going to be the East Coast's best opportunity to see the Washington Huskies. A team that was a #1 seed and was the best team on the west coast. But now that one last chance has been lost. If there were five fans on the East Coast who wanted to see UWM I'd be surprise. However for some reason WUSA gave us their game. That was unnecessary.

But more seriously, I too was angry at being STUCK with that #1-#12 matchup from WCBS out of New York when for MOST East Coast fans, the play of a team soon joining the Big East would have been of greater interest. (Not to knock the MIDWEST, Big Dog, but ......... ) Even MORE frustrating was the after-the-game exchange among the NYC commentators where it was obvious that THEY (or at least two of the three) had been gloriously hogging the feed coming out of Albuquerque to watch the UW game, as they went on and on about the umpteen reasons why Louisville was unstoppable. Yeah, CBS, the REST of us might have liked to have SEEN that. FWIW, MCIGuy, you can hit this link and get a further link (in the posting which starts the thread) to a video download of one of the crappy foul calls which took lively little Nate Robinson of UW out of the game. mb6.scout.com/fdawgmanfrm2.showMessage?topicID=16919.topicLesson for next year as Slick Rick's team joins the Big East: watch out for Cardinals' players who fall down and pull a Hoya down on top of them. Is Francisco Garcia channeling Reggie Miller?
