Here are some suggestions on how to deflect unwanted negative attention from co-workers.
1. If I knew this was going to happen, I would have gone to my safety school - Harvard.
2. Who pays attention to the NCAA tournament, anyway? The UEFA Europa league is where it's at!
3. JT III's dad was ALSO a coach?
4. Georgetown has a basketball team? For men?
5. No. I went to Georgetown College in Kentucky.

No one has been able to successfully give me any sh*t since we lost. They see the sadness in my eyes and know that no words will make me feel any worse than I already feel.
Small victory? not sure...

On Monday and Tuesday nobody said a word.
On Wednesday, somebody brought up the game.
I fired that person and that seems to have shut down the comments.

Just kidding.

Five in a row, Nevada. We are talking UCLA-type dynasty. Doesn't hurt when one of the players is referred to as "The Phenom."

Tell them you agree with them and finish their sentences for them even before they get to far into it. Go into a deep discussion of what you think went wrong, and go on and on until their eyes start to glaze over and they realize if they bring it up again they will have to set aside 30 minutes to listen.
So far it's been brought up twice, and I am pretty certain those folks will never want to talk Georgetown basketball again with me.

Things I have done or events that have happened that have helped me cope:
2008 - Watched a movie. It was a bad movie as I recall. 2009 - Ran a half-marathon. Did relatively well. 2010 - Bought a car. It was a Saab. Double whammy! 2011 - My son was born. 2012 - Went to Hawaii. 2013 - Wrote inane, pointless lists on a message board.
It will be a long off-season.

I tried to look at the positive things -
I had a wonderfully pleasant day last Saturday as everyone in the house knew not even to approach me as my depression was painfully obvious. Even my bulldog George sayed away.
I now don't have to negoitate my way out of all manner of family duties on Easter Sunday to escape to Cowboys Stadium for the game. Think of all the paybacks I avoided.
I saved who know how many thousands of dollars by not having to go to the Final Four in Atlanta.
Life is wonderful!!

Did you see that soccer game in the snow? Talk about March Madness, did you see that nil-nil tie in Azteca Stadium?

Let's go with this. Might have to re-name this the "Where I Was After That Game That Never Happened Thread". 2008 - Threw an insta-party with my fellow gamewatchers to numb (and then forget) the pain 2009 - Went on a long bike ride 2010 - Closed down BlackFinn 2011 - Closed down BlackFinn, then played BuckHunter 2012 - Incredulously wandered DC for two hours, went on long run 2013 - Freaked out at a bar in Tahoe. Then went skiing.

Then went skiing. I can play this game, although I want to throw in a couple slightly happier ones too: 2006: Walk out of Sellinger Lounge with hundreds of my Hoya fan classmates, disappointed but content with the feeling that "we're back" 2007: Chanting "Thank You Hoyas" at the team from the student section at the Georgia Dome after an unbelievable Final Four run 2008: Kick around empty kegs and yell screams of frustration behind The Tombs, after I had worked the Easter Brunch shift 2009: Witness DaJuan Summers' half court heave airball live in Waco, TX as we lose in opening round NIT (just so happened to be on a business trip in Texas) 2010: Frustratedly wonder to others what just happened at Black Finn game watch in DC 2011: Take Kamikaze shots saying, "Here's to Next Year" at Bus Stop Game Watch in SF 2012: Could have sworn Jason Clark's three pointer was about to go in to send game into OT at Bus Stop in SF. But no it was an airball. Sadness ensues. And I had to bartend later that night. 2013: Run up a ridiculous tab at Bus Stop in SF, justifying it by saying I'm actually saving money because I won't be flying to Atlanta this year. Not quite sure how I make it home... 2008 and 2013 hurt the worst. 2006 and 2007 were obviously awesome.

2008: Rejoined the family and continued celebrating Easter. Was happy Roy was going to a better place, where big men didn't get called for ridiculous off the ball offensive fouls 2010: went on a tour of the lines of Naszca Peru. Have yet to see actual footage of the game 2011: spent an hour trying to find a cab at the United Center. Packed and then drove to MN through a snowstorm to look at wedding venues. 2012: Complained about the refs. 2013: got a dog, because as far as I can tell, dogs are not allowed in the NCAAs and therefore can't lose in the first or second round of the tournament. Have not thought about teaching my new dog to be like Air Bud, finding a way for him to be eligible (its possible--look at who Cuse gets eligible) and then having him lead Georgetown to the Sweet 16. Have not discarded this idea to the realization that JT3 would never run alley oop plays for my dog.
