Saw that Indiana cut down their nets last night even after losing a game. Looked like a Crean production if I've ever seen one, in front of about 200 fans at 1:30 am. They clinched a tie earlier in the week and cut down the nets. I am 90% sure that big east teams have never cut down nets for winning the regular season title, although I am pretty sure there is a trophy presented to the team. a) I would never want to see a team cut down nets after a loss (in our case to Cuse and a tie for the regular season) b) Anyone know of a case where a BE team cut nets for regular season win? c) If it was ever going to happen, I think this would be the perfect year as the BE as we know it is changing, we sweep Cuse away, and the players get recognized for a great regular season! Thoughts??

Cutting down the nets in Atlanta will be enough.

Tom Crean hung a banner for Marquette inside the Bradley Center as large as their 1977 NCAA championship and final four banners for winning the Great Alaska Shootout in 2004, just to give you an idea of his approach to these things. He is an absurd over the top promoter. The Don King of college basketball.

Has never happened before and I would not want to see it happen now.
BD is 100% correct about Creepy Crean.

You cut down the nets when you win the BET. Regular season titles involve a trophy ceremony (or at least they did in 2007 & 2008)

Per the comments section on Casual, the current students are already talking about rushing the court if/when we win on Saturday.

If they show up, they can do whatever they like. Even if it would be idiotic.
My guess is the leadership here--the true hard core folks who have been there from the beginning--will not allow this to happen.

Per the comments section on Casual, the current students are already talking about rushing the court if/when we win on Saturday. Hope the AD or JTIII put a stop to this. Not only is it unnecessary, since it is a game we should win. We are ranked higher, so it would be embarrassing. Finally, didn't the NCAA say they were going to start fining schools that rush the court (or were they just considering it)?

If we beat Syracuse in the last ever big east matchup to sweep the regular season series and win the big east title, I have no problem with students storming the court.

No problem with it, if they would had won game then it would not have as big an issue. That program had hit rock bottom for several years. Going from Coach Knight to Coach Davis to Coach Sampson to Coach Crean, so for the players there it was more for them....I dont even know the last time Indiana won a BIG10 title.

a 50 person rush will be funny and horribly embarassing.

Regardless of whether rushing the court makes sense, there will be more than 50 students at this game. There were more than that Saturday and that was a game against Rutgers. I think the concern that students will no show up is overblown.

If we win the Big East, even shared, there should be a significant celebration. It is a much bigger accomplishment than winning 3 or 4 games against random opponents in the Big East tournament and winning that.

I haven't heard of the NCAA considering it (meaning I don't know), but it has come up within the ACC. It is supposed to be a topic of discussion during their annual meeting at Amelia Island. The proposal I heard was about an escalating fine per court storming (e.g. 5K for first offense, 25K for second, 50K for third).

It’s up to the Conferences. The SEC I believe is one that fines teams on an escalating scale. Something similar to what JC listed above..

I'll accept a celebration and a trophy ceremony but I just don't think that rushing the court would be the correct way.
