Killing off Blackhawks-Red Wings makes me hate the NHL even more than I already do, and they've been an eminently hateable entity at the league level for a long time. Totally understandable position, but from what I have read Detroit has wanted out of the West for a long time. Now they get to be in the East and play more prime time games. So blame Detroit as much as the NHL. Also note that unbalanced divisions is just an excuse to add two more teams in the near future...

Confirmed. Events over the last week should make for an interesting encounter at the Garden on April 19. And I expect the same teams to see each other again in early June with a little more at stake. (Dallas sure hopes so.)

Caps attempt to shake off the DC curse by tanking the first two months of their season and then catching fire late They beat Winnipeg tonight to win the Southeast Division and clinch the #3 seed in the East. Screw regular seasons! Nothing matters til March!!

So what you're saying is that the Caps' division title will be meaningless when they lose to the Senators or the Islanders in the first round? Makes sense to me.

Two parts amazing and two parts gagolicious. Poor Toronto. They wait nine years for a playoff appearance for that??

Oh, I do not question the epic choke job that was involved. I pretty much think any huge comeback is equal parts "trailing team playing inspired" and "leading team soiling their pants." Frank Reich against the Oilers, Duke-Maryland in the FF, 2004 Sox-Yankees, and, OK, the Flyers comeback against the Bruins from 0-3 down in games and 0-3 down in Game 7* all fit that bill. As do many others. * And it is for this reason that I have not done any trash talking with any of my many friends from Toronto. Because I know how it feels. Honestly, if the Bruins hadn't redeemed themselves by winning the whole thing two years ago, I am pretty sure I still would not even be able to speak of that series. I hope Toronto gets a similar redemption in seasons to come. They are young and very talented, so I imagine they are at the beginning of a pretty steady playoff run if they can keep it together. ...just as long as that redemption comes against someone other than the Bs.

I agree with everything you wrote, Boz. In almost all cases, epic team rallies/collapses are a little of both (not sure about Duke/Maryland, though - my happy recollection of that game is that Maryland didn't collapse, Duke just went wild - that would sort of be like saying we choked against Iowa - we didn't).

Horrible call. But the hockey gods made sure everything worked out OK.
Now, we are left with a final four in the NHL that is comprised of the last four consecutive Stanley Cup champions. How awesome is that?!?!
Half of my motivation for this is selfish, of course, but SO hoping we get an Original Six match up in the finals.

I will be happy with any scenario that doesn't involve the Penguins moving on.

Hawks' OT clincher was great. Bruins-Hawks should be a phenomenal Finals matchup.

Disappointed, but still a really nice run by the Kings.
Couldn't have foreseen the Bruins sweeping the Penguins in a million years.

Horrible mistakes by Boston to surrender the lead in the third period (well, one horrible mistake and one unlucky deflection, but that's the way things go).
However, if the whole series goes like last night, we are in for a treat in these Finals.
